utterly disappointing

on the other hand that "kid gets arrested" thread at stardestroyers is pretty hilariously trainwrecked. i can't help but wonder if there's some subtle trolling going on there.

I viewed myself through the 'fragmented personality' lens once. Then I grew up.

I can't help but feel bad for people like that now because of it. I'm always tempted to try and help because I became a not-hopeless person through conscious, concerted effort and I see no reason why anyone else couldn't do the same - but I know it wouldn't work, no matter how I packaged it.

I'm not getting involved in that one. I will say that the whole story and subsequent thread trainwreck draws a hilarious contrast to my older sister's teaching experience. Until going on maternity leave she was principal and head teacher of a school of about sixty students, in a town that looks like this from above:

Image

The police are fifty kilometres away in the next town over. The system she uses for dealing with unruly students would not fit that of a metro area school, and vice versa. Different systems in different districts and regions? Say it ain't so!

Oh mang. I've got some douche that claims to be a parent on another board getting incensed over somebody daring to tell someone else that their kids aren't special. It's hilarious.

Two things.

First, you replied before I did.

Second, I like you (for some reason), and I don't like Molyneux. Oh noes, favoritism!

good luck

yeah that's a huge thing over there. how much fiction would stand up to any scrutiny in terms of characters saying the right things.

like apparently everyone in almost every movie is a moron because they rarely shoot on location and dressing Vancouver up as New York is pretty common

then again i guess they're just movies :psyduck:

The thing is, I have no objection to trying to justify stuff in movies that doesn't make sense, because you like the film and don't want to have to deal with a break in suspension of disbelief. Shit knows I had to do it in Star Trek (so a supernova blew up Romulus...but the plan was to somehow suck the supernova into a black hole, even though gravity propagates at lightspeed and the blast wave was already approaching Romulus, and supernovae don't have blast waves, and jesus christ, it was subspace quantum blah blah let's just get back to the pew-pews :psyduck: ). But trying to pass it off as anything other than a gaffe requires a huge leap of faith--and if it was deliberate, it's still bad writing (frankly, it's worse writing) because there was really no reason to establish Boss Nass didn't understand geology and there was never any follow-up or payoff.
