Re: Writing thing

Just a small thing from a worldbuilding thing I was writing, I'm just posting it here cause I like how the ending turned out so I don't want to just delete it. ---- Of course, there is additional nesting yet to go, for the Vazdigigi houses the center of the human world, the holy of holies. Before th...

What makes you think the stuff evilsoup was talking about is resistance and not the same thing abusive men do?

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat

Women therefore essentially developed the strategy of Resistance to oppression based on "hectoring", "badgering", and other stereotypical "angry bitch" responses of married men to their husbands -- they used what maneouvring room they could to lash out at the man who h...

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat

I love the fact that we have been able to correspond so civilly for so long despite our profoundly different points of view. That's the kind of world I want to exist. Same here. It's a genuine pleasure, and you've actually non-trivially influenced me, even if I still basically agree with David Brin...

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat

I'm pretty sure that in the 1640s the Wampanoag didn't think there'd be six million whites living in Boston at some point in the future! But swamped they were. Those situations seem very different. The thing that really hurt (indigenous) American societies was the immigrants didn't integrate into e...

I imagine the borders of old timey big states like the Roman Empire must have leaked like a sieve. They generally seem to have survived that.

From Biscuit's blog: Doesn’t seem funny? Well, I had to think about it before realizing what struck me as weird about it. I’ve talked before about how hazy the actual end game of radical feminism’s gender abolition is, but this post made me realize something else:they don’t have much of a start game...

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat

I've come to the conclusion that I've developed a really self-sabotaging toxic addictive OCD-ish pattern of thinking when it comes to my art, and if I'm going to get anywhere I'm going to have to stop myself from doing it. I remember RedImperator once saying the reason nerds spend so much effort on ...

Though I've been accustomed for a while now to reading fanfiction pieces whose chapters are almost novella-length in themselves, and with wordcounts over the 500k-1M mark... In my experience it's easy for stories to get sprawling if you're kind of making it up as you go along (I remember the last s...

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat

Hey, stupid math question. Say I have a sphere with a radius of 10 (inches, miles, whatever). Now I draw a square 4 (inches, miles, whatev) on a side on that sphere Now say I have a sphere with a radius of 5 It will have 1/4 the surface area of the first sphere And I draw a 2 X 2 square on it. The s...

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat

This week I found out that the latitude where the Earth's circumference is half what it is at the equator is supposedly 60 degrees.

Funny, I'd have intuitively thought it would be 45 (halfway between equator and pole).

Spheres, how do they work???

Is it just me, or does it seem like Spacebattles has been down more than usual lately? I wonder if its servers are housed anywhere in the U.S. where there's really shitty weather. Honestly, the only reason anyone fears a nuclear Iran is because then we'd have to stop trying to push them around. This is how it looks to me to: the real reason the American political class hates the idea of Iran getting the bomb is it means they lose the option to crush a non-compliant regime wi...

The ship is quiet. All I can hear is the quiet hum of fans, recirculating the air. I make breakfast for myself. Everything I do seems loud. It feels as if I’m disturbing the quiet of a temple, or a tomb. I sit down and eat. Mati and Kadi say the food from the bins tastes bad, but I’ve never had this...

That quote SDN puts at the top of their page might have been one that was actually from a Neo-Nazi but was misattributed to Voltaire. They recently replaced it with a big picture of red flowers (poppies?).
