Re: Testing Episode IV: A New Lament
Yeah, well, at least to think about it. Sometimes the most effective programming technique is to rethink the question into something simpler. Most of my job is doing that with clients, talk to them and figure out what they actually need in order to avoid doing unnecessary work. But even if something...

Re: Testing Episode IV: A New Lament
Looking at each digit is one option, though another is to do it mathematically: for numbers between 0 and 49, there will be one 5 every 10 numbers - 5, 15, 25, 35, 45. Then all of them 50-59. Then back to every ten: 65, 75, 85, 95, and so on until 150... Sometimes, just writing something quickly is ...

Re: Trek Thread
So, I just now bought the DS9 dvds. (Well, about a month ago, the price suddenly became affordable!).. I might spring for blu ray on top of it, but only if the price was very right (for example I already owned bsg season 1,2,3 on dvd, but bought blu-ray complete series anyway since I could get it fo...

Re: Trek Thread
You got it! Yeah it was the design evolution. The sketch before it was three rings like the traditional picture of the atom (a simple yet distinct shape that makes a good brand) then Rick Berman said he liked it, but split two of the rings.... and that became the concept of the pylons. He didn't say...

Re: Trek Thread
Around 19 mins, Sternbach talks about the size and the thought process that went into it too. Arbitrary size, but with logical reasoning. That was enjoyable.

Re: Trek Thread
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB_pEjAHgpI I'm watching this guy on youtube talk to Rick Sternbach about the design on the DS9 model, and at about 14:30, Sternback points out where the promenade is... I never realized that. I guess my mind just assumed it is circular, so it must be one of the rings...

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
The ship outside received the transmission, then they passed a disk through the docking bay to the ship inside... in plain view of Darth Vader himself. Bah.
but whatever.

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
Yeah, it actually did come to mind after I made the post but I was too lazy to edit.... but rogue one didn't show them intercepting a transmission but handing off a physical disk
lolol
whatever though not that big of a deal

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
I just had a thought about the plans: it should have been a physical disk the whole time that they had to steal from the planet and launch it back up by ship. Then the rebels tractor beam it aboard and run. We'd then have no transmitting at all to explain while keeping the "beamed aboard this s...

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
I developed a fanon theory that Tarkin was the best Imperial Grand Moff the Rebellion ever had. Because all his actions in Rogue One and ANH in the long run only helped the Rebellion. By blowing up Scarif Base he must have set back Imperial covert operations and R&D by a fuck ton, all because h...

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
Aw man, maybe Tarking really did fuck up royal blowing up Scarif - what if the archived copy was the only one they had ? Build the Death Star, destroy all the plans and keep one master copy for the archives, consult it when needed. Maybe the Rebels could've skipped the attack and just waited until ...

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
Just seen it btw. I'd rate it very okay. It got better towards the end. But Jyn's character arc was weird. 'The Rebellion just assassinated my father. Therefore I will go" I think the whole character arc and motivation stuff in the second half of the film is problematic.... I'll have to watch ...

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
So I am reading a review now that criticises the film for not making you care about the characters enough... saying they are shallow, and I basically agree, it didn't spend a lot of time on them. I do think the film did a better job stopping to breathe than TFA did, but not as well as ANH. Of course...

Yes, that's exactly the scene I was watching when I made that post....Modern day fighter jets would have blown up the whole facility.

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
I just finished the film. Again, unimpressed with the music... but I felt it was much better paced than the last few; it actually kept my attention and didn't feel overly long, while pausing briefly for decent effect. Still a few callbacks to old stuff, some of them worked but I wish they'd create s...

Re: ROUGE ONE: KINDA LIKE STAR WARS
I am watching it right now... so far, my impression is that it is much better than The Boredom Awakens but I'm not finished with my opinion yet (I still have like an hour to go though).
But I just saw the x-wings fire on this thing and... I'm not seeing the gigatons. Sorry not sorry.

Yeah, that show is wild but I did like the ending of that episode quite a bit.
