Re: Testing Episode IV: A New Lament
As I said, RL and Spacebattles conspire. Probably. Then again I more or less left SDN so that prboably makes sense. SB takes up so much time now. Speaking of which, was that church thing your idea or what? Nope it was Cool Guy's. I think he used it as a secret plot to boost his OBS thing. Praise be ...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories
There's the Goto Deathwatch novels (which aren't bad, although the second one is not as good as the first) - probably Goto's best work. The other novel (so far) is by the vastly-superior (in my tastes) Steve Parker featuring his Deathwatch team Talon Squad from the various short stories. There's als...

HERO OF THE IMPERIUM! Speaking of me sending you mail, you didn't answer my last one :( Actually I did early in November and I can take a screengrab to prove it. Sadly I'm guessing you didn't receive it which is why I kept checking and never got a reply last time you responded. Sorry bout that. Ah,...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories
I considered editing in that I had abused admin powers to send you email directly, but I thought better of it. It doesn't really bother me much, since the email for that is largely my disposable account. You could have also asked Rabid, as he knows my email (well one of them.) Wait, what? Which BL ...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories
I'm still semi-around places, just not actively posting because I have limited time to spend on browisng forums (and most of that is devoted to moderating SB, or otherwise keeping sci fi vs debate nerds in line) If anyone needs me they can still pm me here, on SB, or SDN or SV because I've got accou...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories
What happened with Wong was the same thing that happened with most of the SDN "old guard." Their interest in vs. debates and scientific analysis of Sci-Fi waned, so they could no longer justify spending time on it. I mean fuck. Even Connor doesn't do it anymore, and he was pretty much the...

It would have the best noncanon policy if it weren't for the 40K fans trying to force canon upon the setting arbitrarily

'allistic' While probably a hundred times better than 'neurotypical' I clearly need some kind of RSS feed for keeping up with the hip jargon I need an autocorrect just to *remember* not to use the wrong terminology. I don't get much IRL use using correct terminology. I have a hard enough time catch...

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance
I just turned 35 a few days back and I can still sort of manage getting by on a few hours sleep for one or two days, although it really kills me in terms of awareness/effectiveness... its just that for the next 2-3 (or more) days after that I need to get much more sleep and I may even need to sleep ...

Re: Random "hard" sci-fi question(s)
Proton beam = hydrogen plasma jet thrown at relativistic speed. To make an analogy, you know how the industry use high pressure water jets to cut steel plates which are more than a centimeter thick ? I think that's kind of the same mechanism at work here. Well its not hard to make a particle beam d...

Re: Random "hard" sci-fi question(s)
From what litlte I know of them its not terribly suprising. I've read some arguments that PBW are overrated for doing damage (although they have the potential for that) and their main value in the SDI was for the ion-cannon like effects (which kinda surprised me because I thought the ion cannon stuf...

Shep: Grand champion of SDN. He got everyone to cover him while he trolled to his heart's content. Then went of his own accord. I once plugged "shep" "banned" and some other stuff into the SDN search, and it was always funny to see either the mods impotently posting, or DW basic...

And on a semi-related topic: Generally actually writing on SB is increasingly drawing me toward the depressing conclusion that much of the userbase is ironically bad at engaging with speculative fiction. Did you honestly expect different? Spacebattles is a huge forum and its a very open one, with ve...
