Re: videojuegos

I'm actually liking what little I've played of the Shadowrun game. The art is lovely for the price and the writing has been good, if not stellar. I'll be interested to see how much wiggle room I have on missions, playing as a charisma based character. Let me talk my way around the combats.

Re: Counterinsurgency is bullshit

I was reading a report somewhere about how we learned all the wrong lessons about COIN because people wanted to believe that theories which worked in one theatre would work in another. Trying to apply the lessons of Malaya to Afghanistan and so forth, without taking into account the differences in b...

Re: videojuegos

Sadly, despite being at a private bar event with Bioware devs tonight I didn't get a chance to go "I just played ME3, with all the DLC and the ending recut. WHAT THE FUCK."

However, I did drink GnTs at EA's expense. Thank you EA.

Finished Mass Effect 3. Yeah. Fuck that final half hour. What the dizzy fuck was any of that? The "Catalyst" being the kid who you saw getting killed - was that addressed anywhere? Why does it look like that (I played with the extended cut active as far as I know) - it certainly wasn't add...

Re: Testing Chat IV: A New Hope

I'm keen to see a Beeb bit from last week called "I pay for your life" or similar, where it's working folks/tax payers and welfare recipients being interviewed.

Could be populist trash or actually illuminating.

Re: Testing Chat IV: A New Hope

Reasonable doubt was always on the table given the circumstances and the prosecution failing to keep it's own witnesses in line and get a solid narrative sold to the jury means no one should be surprised by this verdict.

Re: Testing Chat IV: A New Hope

a degree is no guarantee of employment (I know a guy with a 2:1 who works four hours a week in a supermarket -- he can't find anything else), and it's much easier to get a job if you already have one so I'd recommend just looking around at other local shops etc. and see if you can find something be...

The ELC is the most fun vehicle in that game. Learning how to drift so that you can throw the ELC sideways, blast the side armour then straighten out and speed away again is awesome.

Man, Ryan Davis dying. That fucking sucks. He was a guy who I've been listening to, watching and reading for near enough on a decade. I was really looking forward to meeting him for drinks next week. The amount of times his podcasts had gotten me through rough days and weeks at work... Only 34 and j...

Reviews of Pacific Rim are coming in and holy shit does it sound like Guillermo had straight up sprayed diarrhoea on the screen. When even the giant robot action is being written off, you know there's issues. I'll reserve my judgment until I'll have seen it. I hope they're wrong but the stuff they'...

Yeah, Denison was a good seat to be in. Even if we did have to put up with Eric Abetz.

Now I'm in what can safely be described as liberal heartland. Home of Menzies, Peacock, Georgiou and now Frydenberg.

Though, the margin isn't as big as it could be, so maybe something crazy could happen.

The Abbott article is good. It's a reminder to a lot of people that Abbott isn't just an bundle of soundbites and dangerous ideology, but someone who is truly smart and understands politics and the public. And a lot of the speculation I've seen lately has been about things like the opposition to Gay...

The fast turning thing is precisely what made the Rage virus self-quarantining. The lack of an incubation period and rapidity of going fully symptomatic means that you aren't even going to get a chance to BOARD a flight, let alone turn on board. It sounds like WWZ zombies should suffer from the same...

I see supercars all the goddamn time. Lots of Porcsches and Maseratis. And a suprisingly high number of Aston Martins, Ferraris and Lambos.

Melbourne is full of rich egomaniacs though.

Yes, just like that. End of photography rant. I feel this way about the trend in the last few years since decent DSLRs became more affordable(or at least, desirable enough to justify spending more than you did on your first car) where people buy one, play with it for a bit, then start a facebook pa...

Been testing out games on new PC as part of a HTPC setup. Rediscovered my love for Max Payne 3. Also realising how fucking stunning games like Hitman Absolution, Max Payne 3 and Sleeping Dogs are when settings are maxed out.
