Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting

I hear that the idea behind it was that after the first two Evil Deads failed so hard at being serious Raimi just said "Fuck it" and embraced the camp.

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting

I think it's usually more anger at religious institutions and people than anger at God, though it does often seem to come with a side of "if the God these people believe in did exist, I wouldn't like Him either!" I can see this. My grandmother was kind of like this. Religion caused her no...

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting

the angry atheist thang is a reaction to shitty experiences with religulons This kind of angry atheist usually strikes me as something akin to the atheist caricature that shows up in movies where a character's beliefs are relevant to the plot. Their stance is not necessarily due to genuine disbelie...

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting

At least for me, transitioning from smugtheist into a healthier version of atheist involved going from not believing that gods existed to not caring whether gods existed.

http://www.advocate.com/politics/marriage-equality/2013/04/24/rhode-island-senate-passes-marriage-equality-bill Looks like Rhode Island is going to be the 10th state to pass marriage equality. I've seen reports of people caught in the explosion getting limbs blown off, so some of the injuries are pretty bad.

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting

I have heard that there's a movie about Toussant L'Ouverture that has some pretty big names behind it (I think Danny Glover's directing or something), and they're filming it in Venezuela because no US studio would greenlight it due to the lack of white heroes. How much is racism on the part of the s...

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting

I'd say no. I can't picture any situation where someone could actually feel sympathy if they have a complete lack of empathy. Seems like being able to at least understand another person's emotional state is a requirement for sympathizing with them.

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting

I watched them once in TTT and RotK and after that pretty much hit the scene skip button to get back to whatever Aragon and Company are doing, which is way more interesting. I felt the same way about the books, to be honest. The stuff with Rohan, the Ents, Minas Tirith, the Paths of the Dead, etc, ...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories

It certainly gave the middle of ANH an extra sense of urgency.

At the time it never occurred to me that the armors served entirely different functions because they never referred to Vader's injuries in the movies.

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories

For years as a kid, I could never identify who that guy was down in the garbage smashers shouting at C3P0, or why he suddenly disappeared after the scene. I was that special age of young where things like 'being wet and slicking your hair back' transformed you into an entirely different human being...

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance

Windows 8 was designed with tablets in mind, and the UI makes a lot more sense when using it with a touchscreen. The reason so many people (including me) dislike it is because touchscreen computers are still relatively rare, and what works well for touchscreens often doesn't for regular desktops and...

Either she'll get a growth spurt, or her form will come to evolve in the decades/centuries to come. Positive point : the probabilities that Spike will outlive Twilight now seems low. Negative point : we can't say the same of the rest of the mane 6. <img src="http://sae.tweek.us/static/images/e...

But I look nothing like Liam Neeson :whine: You do in my head. Just like Ford is always the Chairman, Aaron is The Dude, Tim is Elwood Blues, and Gands is currently Busey. Though I must say Win8 is a pain in the ass on a laptop. Four separate motions to turn off the bitch? Please. Win8 makes me miss the ease of Vista. Apple has a temp lead in the OS war. This from a guy who doesn't like Apple. I'm sticking with Windows 7. Unless they come out with "Win7 Mode&quo...

I can sort of see the Fluttershy/Vir comparison, especially the meek, easily pushed around Vir from the early seasons.

Also, whoever made the chart decided that Rainbow Dash is a superfluous tacked-on character without any real affect on the story.
