Re: Joke thread for jokes

Vatican police recently arrested an unidentified man who tried to streak through St. Peter's Square. The man attempted to escape by fleeing into the Basilica, but he was caught by the organ.

lol I just imagined what a Canadian invasion would be like they'd be constantly apologizing for getting in our way and offering us donuts Before burning down the White House. Again. While apologizing for it. At least until they are hit by a massive hurricane piloted by the vengeful ghost of G...

So I know nothing of Internet politics. What is "fyad" and why would they care?
Testing was basically SDN's version of FYAD. It stands for Fuck You And Die.

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach

It's impractical in the sense that it would require one or more major cultural shifts in order for it to be implemented in the modern US. With the amount of influence the corporate world has on the culture, it would be trivial for them to poison the well against a guaranteed minimum income that is a...

With regards to prostitution, there will always be problems no matter how legal or illegal it is. As long as paying work is a requirement for survival, you will see desperate people turning to all kinds of degrading work, sexual or non-sexual, in order to make ends meet.

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach

i think a large part of that is backlash from the mainstreaming as well- see the recent intensification of "fake nerds" etc. but nerd "culture" was always relatively mainstream and it's just now that there is a Frankensteinian overall culture that these things can be articulated...

B) The "Gamer" culture is toxic in so many ways that your comment just makes me think you haven't thought it through. A lot of this is that gamer culture is a subset of nerd culture, which is extremely fucked up. It is sometimes more accepting due to the whole "social outcast" a...

It's true that Zinyak being a snob on the radio is a huge selling point for the classical station, but for me it also has the added bonus where a well timed Ode to Joy or Mars the Bringer of War is amazing. Still, wish I could get the song libraries from 2 or 3, if only for Land Down Under, Flight o...

Didn't play Prototype, so I can't say. It's pretty straightforward controls. The sprint button makes you run at super speed on the ground, glide when in the air, and run up walls when you are touching a building while not on the ground. You jump higher depending on how long you hold the jump button....

So I decided to say "To Hell with it" and got Saints Row 4. I'm having a blast with it, but anyone who goes into it expecting something like Saints Row 2 is going to be sorely disappointed. As joviwan said, it's a superhero sandbox, not a crime sandbox. You no longer have safehouses with g...

So has anyone had a chance to play Saints Row 4 yet? From what I've seen, it makes Saints Row 3 look grounded in reality, which is fascinating in a "celebrity having a very messy public meltdown" kind of way.

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance

one part is that a lot of people that have been raped are pretty offended by rape jokes, so you shouldn't say them, in general, because you're being an asshole to no gain. I find it generally assholish to joke about a crime to a victim of that crime (except murder victims, since they've never been ...

Ah, so that's what happens when the timer hits zero. Yeah, I can see why it'd be a problem.

There is a program that reduces alert level, though, so that should be able to buy them some time. Do none of the NPC deckers have it?

I didn't quite get that feel about the Matrix parts, if only because I haven't run into many of them yet, and I've destroyed everything in the ones I have done. First Matrix encounter I ran into was the mission with the brain-hacked junkies being forced to attack by the Yakuza decker, and I had sunk...

So I've played a bit of the Shadowrun game. Overall, it's pretty good. Interesting story so far, decent graphics, and the isometric view does bring up a bit of Baldur's Gate, Syndicate, and X-COM nostalgia. I've been playing as a Decker, focused mainly on decking and Charisma, so I haven't exactly b...

how common are power outages in the USA? More common than they should be considering the amount of resources this country has. During one of the hotter days recently, there was an interview on the news with a guy at one of the places where they monitor the grid. He talked about how there were no bl...

I didn't mind it too much, either. It was just disappointing when put alongside the rest of the game. I think part of the reason I enjoyed the rest of 3 was that it made Shepard seem much more desperate and vulnerable than the other two games did. In 1 and 2, you play this larger than life figure th...

Also, while it may only be a symptom, unless something is done to address the problems with alcoholism, it's going to be really hard to do anything about the poverty and racism, regardless of whether or not there is a will to fix those problems.

Sometimes you do need to treat the symptoms first.

I would prefer if they just let the actors look like normal people their age, and turn Star Wars 7 into a sci fi version of RED.
