Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories

Ep3 pt2 is up. Amazing what new eyes do: "So did Yoda. As he escapes the planet in a little pod, he bids farewell to…Chewbacca. OH GOD. That’s the real reason Chewie gets angry while playing space chess with 3P0! It’s not because he’s losing: At the same time as the game is being played, Han So...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories

I don't think he is named in the movies. I spent some time today writing about why SW is actually far better than we remember or give it credit for. All because of reading this. A kid watching it for the first time doesn't have the education or background to pick up a lot of the stuff Lactor does, b...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories

I really cannot express how intriguing it is to too it all second hand through new eyes. I'm going to be sad when it's done.

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories

http://acidiclactor.tumblr.com/ If you want to really see SW from a new perspective, read this. Acidic Lactor is a good writer and has a massive depth and breadth of sci-fi and pop culture knowledge (she references that someone's hair makes them look like a Krogan for christ's sake) but she's NEVER ...

Re: videojuegos

Oh, there's some great moments too (night clubbing with Jack and her calling you out on dancing). It's just there's a few scenes where they've gone "shit, how do we call back to X from ME1/2?" and drop in the most awkward and badly written bit to do it. Because they literally have to go &q...

Re: videojuegos

I've been falling asleep playing Mass Effect 3. Because I play from like 2130 at night and get woken up by my son at 0500 or so... At about 2230, unless what I'm doing is really engaging it's hard to stay awake. And when it's endless poorly scripted conversations on the Citadel to try and wrap up pl...

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance

Moving to a HTPC setup later this year could be interesting - may have a lot more options for streaming as don't have to rely on whatever 360 will support.

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance

I don't like downloading, but the cost per actual show I'd watch on Foxtel is way too high. Maybe one day if their on demand services get better as I can't/won't do "appointment television".

Also, I don't want to give any more money to the great beast.

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance

The Foxtel deal isn't final yet apparently, it's just what they're pushing for. I'll be interested to see if HBO saw enough money flowing from other channels this year to say "nope, not with that clause".

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance

So, Australia is the global piracy king when it comes to Game of Thrones. This year, they cut deals with iTunes and Quickflix to provide episodes on the same schedule as the US in addition to the existing deal with our local Pay TV network. However, Foxtel has gotten it's big swinging dick out and s...

Re: Testing Chat IV: A New Hope

While wandering Hawthorn (a few train stops away) to get to a hardware store on Sunday I discovered an amazing thing - there's a Freerange Butcher there. This place: http://canningsfreerangebutchers.com.au/ More pricey than even our regular good butcher, but with their ethical standards that they ho...

http://www.gog.com/gamecard/subwar_2050_complete I'm so happy GoG has that. Imagine playing TIE Fighter, but you have a limited weapons load and you have to manage your own sonar sensors and noise profile as well as worrying about things like thermal layers, terrain, depth/pressure. I fucking loved ...

Oh shit Do they use different gauges of ethernet cable? You joke, but it is a minor holy war over; Copper Category 5e/6/7 cabling and the dozen different fibre connections which can carry the ethernet protocal  Yeah, we're on a 5, the other agency who moved in uses 6. And so when they moved in...

Re: Testing Chat IV: A New Hope

Some larger spaces could have goats or sheep supported, but the logistics involved with dairy make this a less prime example. Goats have rather heavy ecological impact, and will over-graze far worse than domestic sheep or cattle. And with the overgrazing, thier hooves are quite hard on the soil. I'...

Kangaroo is awesome and just needs to be treated right.

But it is limited in some ways. Haven't figured out how to stew/casserole it without it going to shit. But quick cooking like bbq, stir fry - it's great.

Re: Testing Chat IV: A New Hope

The big changes that I can think of for Australia would be altering habits - less meat, less often and a greater variety when we do. Push to add kangaroo, possum, rabbit and venison etc to the mainstream beef, lamb, pork and chicken. Push for greater use of "whole animal" in a more meaning...

NOT A REUBEN.

Re: Testing Chat IV: A New Hope

We try to buy our meat, dairy and eggs from local small producers or places with high standards (even if it costs twice or three times as much). Fruit and veg gets a bit harder, but we still try and keep it seasonal and local.

But there's a lot of stuff where you just don't have that option.
