No matter how hard they try, they just can't top the originals.

The FRIGHT part? Because it most likely was, as it's the sort of dumb thing some papers/tabloids will do.
Usually they don't make r/l-swapping puns when discussing tragedies that affected a lot of Asians.

Re: Bitching bitching.

Do you actually realize what you're even saying? Do you think it's unfair you aren't supposed to call people the n word? Do you think there's a moral equivalence between "dick" and "cunt"? "Cunt" and "bitch" are not slurs and comparing them to actual ones is ...

Re: Share your favorite Star Wars memories

Some of my first and strongest memories are related to Star Wars. I don't remember seeing Empire in the theaters, but I know that I did. I remember playing with the little metal micromachine-sized Hoth toy set while I was being rolled down a corridor and away from my parents for heart surgery. I was...

So, I think I've had my feel of alcohol and will lead a sober life. I'll stick to hosting parties with my Southern Hospitality. As I've learned, be ready for a bizarre amount of suspicion from people. "I do not drink." "Why not? Have you tried [favourite drink]? You'd like it!" ...

Re: Knubs' Teaching Adventures

Classroom management is the hardest, most tedious and most stressful part of teaching, but once you have it down it makes everything so easy. My advice is just to keep the kids busy until they're completely preloaded for the lesson and ready to work. Break up your instructions into bullet sentences ...

What about me, guys? Most of you I view as your avatars, unless I've seen a picture of you. Stofsk, Aaron, Gands, Einie and Duchess all look like real people. The rest of you... not so much. Re: Trek Thread

There are some book threads on TEO to check out. Honestly, they vary so much in quality and style that I can't really recommend any of them with any confidence unless I know what you are looking for specifically.

I suppose anything by Peter David or some of short story collections are good.

Re: Knubs' Teaching Adventures

To be honest, delaying basic arithmetic is dumbing down education. Where the hell are you teaching? Even in the shitty ghetto schools I work at, the curriculum moves faster than that. Most of the kids (who pay attention) know the basics of how to find a perimeter or area by the end of third grade.

Re: I've Decided to Have a Career in the...

I've only ever subbed third grade classes maybe a half-dozen times, but it seems like they really, really need you to be fair and consistent (which is really impossible since you can't see everything) or they go nuts. It might help to find out the teacher's routine from last semester and follow that...

Over a thousand dollars in bills and at least four months of suicidal depression on my end could've been avoided had someone close to me just owned up and made a decision instead of refusing to do so until it didn't matter anymore. I hope your student teaching semester is less hellish than mine was. Loved the Calc classes, but the kids in Geometry were mentally middle schoolers with the proportionate strength and speed of a spider teenager.
