Re: videojuegos
I went to go read it, but then just kinda skimmed it when I realized that most of it was about Bioshock Infinite, which I haven't played. In fact, I haven't played any of the games that were mentioned, since I almost never buy games the same year they come out (I think Saints Row IV was the first ti...

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
but in this movie it only made the dragon less impressive. When he flamed people. NOTHING HAPPENED I consider it more damning that Bilbo was relegated to a supporting role, especially since Desolation of Smaug covered the parts of the book where he got the most done. At this rate, the third movie i...

It is on the right track, if only because it's actually parody and not just a pile of references.Bounty wrote:Not quite Police Squad-y, but:Imagine an over-the-top parody of the NCIS/CSI-type shows.

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
The best term to use is Ni. As in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQzI3k39Cfw On another note, I watched Police Squad during Thanksgiving. That was a show that was cancelled before its time. Wouldn't mind seeing a reboot of that, so long as they keep all of the sight gags, horrible puns, goofy tone,...

Yeah, him. Don't know too much about him since I've never played any of the Borderlands games. As for the poker game, I like the banter that goes on between the characters during the hand, but it starts to repeat a lot if you play it long enough, especially if the same characters get repeatedly knoc...

So far I've just gotten the two Poker Night games, since 99 cents each seemed like a reasonable price for two games where you play poker with Ash Williams, Brock Samson, Strong Bad, the TF2 Heavy, Sam & Max, Tycho, and the robot sidekick from Borderlands.

Why are the Chinese racist for refusing to assimilate? Demanding assimilation before treatment as equals is the racism there. I don't know enough about the situation in Malaysia to say anything on that specific topic, but refusal to assimilate can be racist depending on the context. The way the Mal...

Re: Lament 3: Cry Hard With A Vengeance
I'd like to propose a compromise to the US culture: You will be allowed to say Merry Christmas, but only if we stop the creep of the holiday taking over the rest of the year. I'll even be generous and give you the whole month of December. So long as shit like Santa and reindeer stay in December, you...

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
Also, has anyone noticed similarities in the argument over whether a country should be allowed to have nuclear weapons and the debate over gun control in the US? A lot of it boils down to an entity's right to defend themselves versus the dangers they pose by possessing said weapon.

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
Nuclear weapons are basically the new imperialism. It's pretty disingenuous for the US to call all of these aspiring nuclear powers unstable and crazy when, in the almost 70 years since nuclear weapons were first developed, we are the only nation to ever use them as a weapon, and it's pretty likely ...

In retrospect, I think it would have been absolutely amazing if Blizzard had the guts to end Wrath of the Lich King with "LOL nope you're all dead" and have subsequent expansion packs combine the Alliance and Horde players into a single Scourge faction with quests and raids depicting them ...

I actually genuinely liked Wrath of the Lich King, and some of the stuff is oversimplified or slightly exaggerated, but a lot of the World of Warcraft story makes absolutely no sense if you think about it for any length of time.

I think a lot of Alliance players are too distracted by Blizzard acknowledging that the Draenei still exist. They pretty much haven't done anything since 2008.

another thing that could be fun is the time it takes to do a whole sensor sweep. so assume anyone in the star system can see anyone else (something i'm not sold on). if a probe jumps in... will it see you first? the advantage is prolly the defender who can have more eyes in the sky, but not necessa...

It is a BS mechanic, though it's hardly the first game to ever do it.
Like BG2. Instant game over if the PC dies because blah blah Son of Bhaal blah, yet there's nothing preventing bringing Imoen back with a Raise Dead if she gets killed.

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
I've heard a couple of people suggest that were on our way to something equivalent to what happened in the 1960s in the 20s, and the Depression and WWII delayed it for a couple of decades. I could buy that. The push for women's rights in particular was similar in the 20s and the 60s, and in some ca...

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
At least where I live, there isn't really a term that specifies the gender of the victim. Generally, bitch is used when a woman is being shitty, regardless of whether she is being shitty to a man or a woman, while men being shitty has terms like asshole, dickhead, or motherfucker. That's actually an...

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
A lot of it is that the wonders are described as equally incomprehensible to the human mind as the horrors, so for some there is not much difference between the two. In both cases, the protagonist cannot encounter it without being fundamentally changed in some way. In some instances, the horrors may...

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
It gets weird with stuff like male identity, or white identity, or straight identity. Because those groups don't have a history of being oppressed, a lot of it ties into the identity politics of other minority groups, and a lot of it overlaps. In the specific case of male identity, it pretty much bo...

Re: Testing Chat V: The Final Mysterious Island: Miami Beach
On the topic of mixed messages and rejecting the mainstream, one thing that can get confusing is how, when a minority culture goes unacknowledged or lies strictly outside the mainstream, it is being marginalized. But when aspects of that culture begin to enter the mainstream, it's frequently attacke...
