Today I am stuck on Box Hill for work.

Plus side? A phenomenal pho joint next to the office.

I just got offered my dream job, assuming shit goes right.

But, it'd involve working for, and indirectly promoting, christian fundamentalists.

I am mildly conflicted.

I have about a month before I have to make the decision.

I think I'm actually going to take it. It makes sense career wise, financially, and if precedent elsewhere holds it'd let me do a lot of good.

But... something doesn't sit right with me.

Dude, its money. You need to eat and if you can use the experience to get a better job down the road, then take it.

You're young enough to do things you don't 100% agree with now so you can do what you really want later. And if it doesn't work for you, I'm sure you'll be able to find something else, you're a smart guy.

a job's a job, so long as you're not working for nazis

it also depends on what you're doing. i mean if all you're doing is like, i dunno, business admin or picking up the phones or feeding your boss' goldfish, that's not on the same level as dudes who are making the policies or guys who are out there proseltysing the unsuspecting

We justified bombing population centers in WW2 because the civvies made sandwiches for factory workers. Don't take blood money.

so the landlady is trying to push a new lease on me

tho the old one auto-renewed in february for 6 months i'm p. sure (i should talk to a real lawyer)

i'm def not signing it. a lock in with raised rates when i may be on the verge of buying is not cool

even though i might be locked in for 5 months now and the hike is $25 / month so it isn't awful. perhaps surrender should be on the table

but eh i want to fight it. it's just then i'll have to be ready to gtfo

i don't want to rush the buy tho

gah.

So I guess background is in order. I'm an assistant debate coach for a top ten CEDA school.

A nearby college that doesn't have a debate team is getting a grant to start one (probably) and I've been offered the Head Coaching job.

So the positives: It's a tremendous career opportunity, it looks great on the resume, it gives me in-roads to get a similar job at another university OR at the High School level, and traditionally Christian fundamentalists in the debate community become extremely open to outside influence while also being successful at debate.

The negatives: My job would be to make soon-to-be missionaries better debaters.

Ricky can have my porn when he pries it from my cold dead hands.

Which shouldn't be too hard as they'll likely be slick with lube...

Somebody's going to step up to do it and advance their career from it. It might as well be someone who isn't going to funnel that money back into tithes.

not to be rude man but isn't debating so ritualised now that the skills you're teaching them will have only limited application in the real world?

If it's anything like that one video he brought up of a dude debating, I'm not worried. Most people don't want a missionary shouting in their face with a river of words so that the missionary can get their point across in 5 minutes. And speaking of BF3 . . . I'm thinking I liked BFBC2 a lot better so far. BF3 is too serious.
