It is telling that some articles I read were like "YO THE DUDE WAS WHITE AND HE TOTES SHOT A BLACK KID!" then later went on to describe him as hispanic. then some article I read today...I think on Y! News described him as - wait for it - a "white hispanic" it really feels like, even if he's not racist, he's going to be made racist by the media. Of course, I expected nothing less. I heard the 911 calls and I have no doubt the guy was NOT acting in self defense at this point; we'll see what shakes out over time.

Being Hispanic is a cultural/ethnic thing, not a racial thing. There are black Hispanics, white Hispanics, mestizo Hispanics, American Indian Hispanics, and so on and so forth. There are even Hispanic white supremacists (people who are entirely Spanish in descent, generally).

Familiar in the sense that I have family who are racist white hicks. Some of the shit she says about anti-white racism ( ) could have been said by my grandmother. Mind you my relatives are of the upper middle class variety of crypto-racists, so I actually have more sympathy for broomstick because of her economic situation.
