tbh as a stand alone movie, instead of an episode of star trek, i don't really hate tpm

it's elf indulgent shit but so was 2001, y'know?

It's certainly closer to the premise of the show then most episodes.

but some people like st3

st3 is like st2.1 so mayeb it's the episodic thing

i mean people who always want novels to fill in gaps in a franchise - st3 must be paradise to them

i think st3 is my least favourite of the tos trek movies - and since i don't really have any investment in the tng movies since none of them were particularly good or conceptually interesting, it's my least favourite of the trek movies in general

it seems to write off a lot of the best symbols of st2 for no good reason

it kills kirk's son, makes genesis into a fraud, and brings back spock

it's kind of like a 2-hour retcon

and it doesn't have the depth to it that would justify that

i don't re-watch the trek movies unless someone else put them on

but i think that just may be a personality thing

some people love to re-watch shit they've already seen, either to alleviate boredom when they're too lazy to go buy something new or as background noise or whatever

i generally have no interest in that, unless i expect that watching it a second time will give me enough new insights and opinions that it will be as satisfying as watching something for the first time (eg, fight club, which is a very different movie when you know the twist at the end, or the wire season 2, which i liked much more the second time around when i understood the show as a whole better)

i'm just confused by people who watch the same shit over and over

and then make threads like 'where is the scifi oh noes it died'

but then i'm confused by people who watch literally anything just because it's on

in short i'm a confused person

new shit is always a gamble and the odds are stacked against you
