Re: hey phant
it's pretty dumb that ios5 doesn't let you link identities though
facetime and message are per-device rather than per-contact, if you know what i mean

Re: hey phant
Yeah it uses numbers for Phones and emails for other devices so convis break as you move cross devices. Same with FaceTime, when youd want it to ring all devices until they pick up.
Re: hey phant
I can kind of understand that. Unless they let you have profiles for the iPad or something, because I think most households will have just one. I wouldn't want my mother picking up those 3am FaceTime calls.
Also: now you can FaceTime yourself! Put your iPad in front and use your iPhone to check the back of your head so you can cut your own hair! Put your iPod on a stick and use it to sweep yor car undercarriage for bombs!
Profiles would be cool, then you could link your computers and iPads and iPods and so on. It would even allow for AppleTV integration, since you could get an alert on screen and maybe the next version could have a camera for on top of the set so you could turn your television into the videophone of the futute!

fuuuuuuuuck
i had to restore my phone to factory settings before it would update since it kept hanging at the 'backing up' stage
now i have to wait two hours for the back up to be restored
not how i planned to spend my sunday evening
meanwhile i updated another 3gs my sister got and that went off without a hitch
although i had to restore that first anyway since it was second hand
if it took me 45 minutes to sync a 16gig phone and apparently will take 2 hours to restore a 32 gig phone (both nearly full) i don't want to think about how long it would take to sync and set up a 64 gig 4S

Re: hey phant
i had problems with backups
ie they never ever worked ever and got stuck
it turns out itunes can't handle incomplete or corrupt backups properly, and a fucked one was in whatever secret folder they keep them in, thus breaking every subsequent backup attempt
so i'd recommend finidng the backup location and deleting everything
ps it took 10m to restore my 3gs with 10gb on it, and maybe 25m to restore sherry's 4 with 20

Re: hey phant
i should have thought to do that first
it's a stupid issue considering i've had to do it several times, but i figured the problem was solved since it backs my phone up just fine when i sync it, and the few times i've had to restore it
it's just come up once when i updated to iOS 4, 5, and a couple updates in between (usually just syncing music and shit)

Re: hey phant
My music collection is weirdly sorted now that I have iOS5.
Why is At The Edge of Time under B?

Re: hey phant
Delete music first.
Back Up.
Restore.
Copy Music Back On.
MUCH quicker.

Re: hey phant
at least i can use my phone while it's syncing, that's a plus
i don't know why it took so long to restore if it didn't put the music and apps back on, anyway
shouldn't have been calendars, those are updated through google so it's just settings
could it have been photos? i have a gig or two of those
maybe contacts, i do have a lot of those
...
nope, not contacts, those haven't synced yet
and photos are still syncing...
fucking bullshit

Re: hey phant
ahahahahaha
'this iphone could not be backed up because there is insufficient storage on icloud'
if you're just backing up my contacts, pictures, and app info you shouldn't be running out of space, fuckers
no way there's 5 gigs of shit
