In most cases, it's more efficient, money wise, to put better thermal isolation on your house than to plug-in more shit to make up for the heat you loose from bad isolation. Just so you know.

Passive solution tend to be superior to active solutions.


Anyway, I suppose you already know that, but when you move into a new house it's best to live it for a year before beginning to invest in major construction/renovations : so you'll have a better understanding of where may lay the problems if there are (and there always are).

This said, when the time come you should ask a pro-fessional to make a diagnosis of your home as far as isolation and the possible installation of solar panels/solar heaters/heat pumps is concerned.

I think that there's a difference between choosing to drink when you know you have to drive home, and drinking and then ending up doing something stupid when you're drunk- one is very foreseeable where the other one is less so. But I find it difficult to reconcile the two as well.

As I said on TEO, it's due to who it harms. Getting drunk and having someone ask you for sex you otherwise wouldn't consent to? That harms yourself and if the other person was sober, then you were being taken advantage of (however, when both people are drunk and the person trying to initiate the sex wasn't doing so in a predatory manner, then I don't think that person should necessarily be charged with rape; ie, some Frat dude using rohypnol in a woman's drink while he's chugging PBR should definitely be charged with rape, whereas just two friends who go out drinking, get plastered, and have what was, at the time, consensual sex, and one party feels that it was not necessarily fully consensual afterward, well....that's a lot more of a gray area that I would feel uncomfortable classifying as rape). If you're drunk and trying to give a police statement, well, it's already well known that your statement is not likely to be very accurate and can thus harm innocent people. Drinking and driving? Well, you're a lot more likely going to kill someone. And being drunk and belligerent means one is a lot more likely to do something that is going to harm someone else. Just because you're not in a state of mind where you're likely to make the best decisions due to chemical alteration doesn't absolve one of responsibility (unless one has been unknowingly intoxicated, like someone secretly spiking your diet cola with PCP).

I don't think it's so much that we fear Iran might someday have power so much as it is them gathering power/powerful allies and having an entirely justifiable set of reasons to hold a grudge against us.
