Ok, it's going to be a bit complicated and maybe off-topic, so take a seat.

At the end of High School, French students pass a final examination which is called the "Baccalauréat", shortened as "Bac". It validate their high-school years, and give them the right to access Higher Education.

Your level of post-bac studies is counted by how many post-bac years of study your formation/diploma takes. There are three standardized level at the European scale : Licence, Master and Doctorat. Licence is Bac+3, Master is Bac+5, and Doctorat is Bac+8.

The "Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS)" I passed was a diploma of Bac+2 level. I did it in special mode called "alternance", where I spent half my time in classes, and half my time working in a company and applying my knowledge there. Basically, I got paid to study. Win-win. I loved it.

Thing is, the diploma was in the field of computer-science, specifically, maintenance of computer systems and networks. basically, I'd describe the job it destined me to as "CompSci Janitor".

I wanted some fresh air, and so, my diploma in my pocket and because I could, I chose to try another path of education, trying to become an Urbanist.
However, after nearly one year i can see now that it isn't the thing for me. I... well, I wouldn't be able to work in the field. As a hobby, maybe, but I couldn't make it my life.

So instead I have chosen to pursue a "Licence Professionnelle", one supplementary year of formation which will put me at a Bac+3 level education, in the domain of embedded systems. I'm going to have to seriously work on refreshing my knowledge in programmation and electronic and things like that, but, well, I might as well bite the bullet now while I still can.


I have accepted that I will never be satisfied with what I'll do of my life, so I am making myself a path toward a way of spartan comfort, which will give me the time and resources necessary to relieve my frustrations in artistic forms.
I will need to create to remain sane.

That's interesting. Over here the label "computer science" tends to get reserved for programming, and even then there's usually a heavy emphasis on math and algorithms if I remember right. Computer janitor jobs tend to get lumped under a different label of "Information Technology" (IT), although there are plenty of IT job listings where the HR department assumes that a CS degree would be good preparation for it. (I'm not saying your way is wrong, it's just a note on differences.)


Anyway, best of luck with your application. I'm feeling hopeful about a phone interview I've got coming up with a company for a position as a "technical installer"; supposedly the job is about meeting retailers and installing credit/debit card terminals for them. I think it'll be a nice change of pace since I already spent seven years being a computer janitor.
