Re: Godammed SDN
So how is it that the law can clearly state intent is not a defense, but people will still wring their hands over intent?§ 490.20 Making a terroristic threat.
1. A person is guilty of making a terroristic threat when with intent
to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, influence the policy of a
unit of government by intimidation or coercion, or affect the conduct of
a unit of government by murder, assassination or kidnapping, he or she
threatens to commit or cause to be committed a specified offense and
thereby causes a reasonable expectation or fear of the imminent
commission of such offense.
2. It shall be no defense to a prosecution pursuant to this section
that the defendant did not have the intent or capability of committing
the specified offense or that the threat was not made to a person who
was a subject thereof.
Making a terroristic threat is a class D felony.

Re: Godammed SDN
I think I'm a Rockefeller Republican (domestically). I'd say Red Tory but that's meant a lot of things over a lot of time in a lot of places, and I doubt Alberta's Red Tory of today means anything to anybody.
I think I used to be more left, but as it is Alberta (and Canada) aren't really right, either. I wonder how much of my political views have been shaped by being a member of the PCs for so many years without having clearly defined positions of my own on everything. Now I'm in a position where I can influence the party's policies and direction, and I don't really disagree with anything. I suppose that's partly from the party shifting left under the new leader. Used to be the reddest Tory in the room, and now I'm definitely not. Pretty sure the leader is more left than me.
It's kinda nice. But then I worry I'm getting set in my ways, ossifying, because I've found people that identify with a particular position or ideology tend to be blinkered to good ideas coming from other quarters.

I try and avoid labels, today my interests might be represented by the NDP, tomorrow the Libs or CPC. But I am a pretty concrete liberal.Phantasee wrote:I think I'm a Rockefeller Republican (domestically). So on the Thomas Jefferson/George Washington end of the spectrum. Maybe on the GW putting down the Whiskey Rebellion end of the spectrum, but I may be reading you wrong. I most closely identify with Jeffersonian liberalism. Remember though, they both thougt that at times violence against enemies was necessary. Glad to see "pacifist" isn't in your label.adr wrote:i label myself an authoritarian conservative free market communist liberal anarchist
oh btw free market and communist can't coexist you try to hold both those beliefs at the same time in your head it'll 'splode like those guys in Scanners

Re: Godammed SDN
before long i'll just have to disengage from sdn b/c my patience needs to be refilled
i'm at the point now where like i come out assful on post #1
and then ppl expect ass so they come out assful too on post #2 and at this point most is already lost on both sides
then i see that as a justification for assfulness and crank it up for post #3
a while ago i used to try to be nice for post #1
and if it didn't work i'd assume i failed to communicate for post #2
but that takes patience and i haven't even been trying lately
