Ask if you could do it, given appropriate permissions (or whatever tools are necessary to get it done). Assuming you have the time to do it.

I'll vouch for you, that you won't go and fuck around with any extra permissions you get for the temporary period.

I'm on probation and I have no experience doing it. If Thanas told me how he restored that single post, I'd do it. I am bored as fuck while waiting for August to approach.

i imagine it's a fairly simple process, on paper, just time-consuming for an active mod

and i think it is an appropriately herculean labour for posters on probation

it's not like you're in a maximum security prison

and it's not like they have to give you permissions outside of testing, or outside of the narrow scope of the assignment

and they'll take them away when you're done or you fuck up

At last the conspiracy reveals itself, I'll give props to Shep for this one.

He goes through quite a bit of effort to paint the good folk of Testing as vile ruffians who want to destroy the majestic, intellectual crucible...

...all to get himself put into a position of power in the board, where he bides his time waiting for that critical mass of stickied threads to build up in Testing...

...so he can finally...

...Nuke the board.

gg, Shep, gg.

PS: This is page 420 of this thread. Einy, I will be very disappointed if you do not spam it up with appropriate .gifs, just sayin'.

So the mods need to make a "Do not ever nuke Testing for any reason" rule now.

For the good of the board. :colbert:

So stickies in Testing are nor disallowed. Because...quantum?

Or maybe it was the deleting some stickies that caused the errors. Or they decided they don't like stickies anymore for some reason.

Because...I got nothing.

It was mods who had to make the stickies "stick" anyway. Supermods even, I think. I don't believe the regular mods can do that, just create announcements.

but I mean
threads have been deleted before
what's different now? Why would this particular time do it? Something to do with the length of the discussion thread (oh gods I would love it if that was the case)?

IIRC the reason for the whole "lock Venting at 10 pages" policy was indeed because threads longer than ten pages screwed with the mod control panel or something.

But that was phpBB2 and IIRC that's supposedly no longer the case; it's only an 'issue' inasmuch as it's a burden to navigate that many posts when trying to do something.

I guess it could be a software issue with the amount of posts that have to be deleted from the database and the updates to people's profiles (post count and all) and searching and whatever. But I honestly don't know.

Actually just got the error again. So maybe not. And maybe it wasn't the Stickies in Testing after all but some other issue?

Put the poor Stickies will nonetheless be the source of blame and forever barred. :oinkoink:

i thought they banned stickies because testing is supposed to be disposable
which is actually an OK position to take I guess
if the discussion thread had been moved like a bunch of people had asked, it would have survived this day of infamy

how badly are they beating on Promethean? Saw it last night, and I was really impressed, they found a great way to keep the feel of the alien universe, but really go a different way that made it surprising and allowed it to build suspense. Having seen Alien/Aliens wasn't necessary, but it did add to the experience. There were a number of places where I just thought "OH SHIT, they're all about to die!" and then they didn't deliver, which really ratcheted it up, because it made more expectations.

I'll be seeing it soon and I'll likely engage the detractors if I enjoy it. I always like a good movie discussion.

I think I'm going to go again this weekend. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. The original Alien franchise (Ridley Scott's stuff at least) is probably my favorite sci-fi franchise. It's created with such artistry and understanding of how movies work. Making the opening of Alien take so long before anything really happened was genius, and you've got that same understanding of how to make tension work in Prometheus. He did the same thing with Black Hawk Down, which has some of the best action pacing I can ever remember in a movie.

Zod, sometimes the theater experience is worth it, and this is one of those times. You can FEEL the audience's tension in some of the scenes.

I'll go during matinee so the stupid teenagers and little children won't be present.

Questor: How do you feel about Alien 3? I know Fincher detests it because of studio meddling. I happened to enjoy it quite a bit because it was brooding and quite claustrophobic.

zod, that's the right choice
the only good thing about it is the special effects
which is a shame, because it could have been a good film fairly easily
