i just saw this on the facebook

"Why Smart People Are Stupid"
And here’s the upsetting punch line: intelligence seems to make things worse. The scientists gave the students four measures of “cognitive sophistication.” As they report in the paper, all four of the measures showed positive correlations, “indicating that more cognitively sophisticated participants showed larger bias blind spots.”

One day media will stop portraying rape as being a thing that happens to girls in alleyways featuring total strangers.

Man the new Lara Croft sure is a thing, isn't it? Like the whole game is premised around triggering male players into wanting to protect Lara, who is depicted as you know young, vulnerable etc etc ... except that because of the shit you do in the game the young and vulnerable Lara Croft is the fucking Terminator. On fire, falling five hundred feet only to get impaled? Walk that shit off young lady.

Why would someone keep trying to get back on when they were banned years ago? :v

What barrel? 18.5?
And the standard 26" vent rib barrel with interchangeable choke. Both with 3" chambers.

The head of one of the big skeptics organizations out there (Michael Shermer, I think) summed it up more succinctly. Smart people believe stupid things because they are better at rationalizing their stupid beliefs.

What are these "shot-guns" about which you speak? They can't fit in a holster, they can't shoot past 100 yards. Are they the Nerf blasters of firearms?

Just kidding, 870s are good 'uns if you want a shotgun. But I really don't own one, I borrow a friend's for 3-gun or rent one at the trap & skeet. An 870 sure makes a lot more sense in swampy Booziana than a .308 w/scope! :)

you know the character pulls back the hammer and we hear it and the other guys around hear it

unrealistic?

Next you'll ask if guns really make constant rattling noises when aimed

they don't even do that in tv land consistently

but the click also happens in toy guns cuz it is a spring and a hook thingy

which i think real guns are too

but idk if the ones are loud because they are deliberately made that way or built cheaply or what

It's more complicated than 'it makes noise or it doesn't.' There are other factors to how we perceive sounds; background/ambient noise, composition of nearby surfaces etc. There's a line in the Band of Brothers in which they're in France and are preparing to ambush a German unit. Lipton is passing along the word to get ready and one machine gunner racks the charging handle on his M1919. Lipton describes this as, at that moment, one of the loudest noises he'd ever heard, and was sure it had given them away to the Germans crossing the field... But that was not the case.

Yeah, I'm wired that way. Partly that was also from kids, a sleeping child is like an armed nuclear weapon with a detonator set to go off over 50 decibels
