speaking of bikes some asshole just about sped out of the alley to get to the street and probably would've kept on going if i hadn't seen him and stopped in time

what is it that compels idiots to drive as fast as they possibly can when they're going out of alleys or a garage in the middle of a sidewalk

I believe it adds the extension "and didn't agree with me after I called him an idiot."

for at least 30 minutes or the effects will not be as noticeable

so far i've lost nearly 10 lbs in the last month just from regular rides

aye, i'm trying to get myself back up to where i was... jesus like 8 years ago now, the time has flown since high school

but i used to ride over 100 miles a week; i'd go out for nice 30 mile trips or so every other day, and maintain decent speeds too

so right now i'm doing 30 minute trips, about 4 miles out and then 4 miles back until i start to find my legs (and lungs and nerve) again

want to pick up the speed each day for these first weeks, then start pushing out the distance again

one thing i like about physical activity though is it is only hard for a little while. at least for the stuff i've done. except standing. i can't stand standing. I can walk or run for hours, but if i stand for 20 minutes i hate it.

anywho tho in 2004 i worked as a groundskeeper at a cemetery

the first day was brutal. lugging this big weedwhacker around in the sun for like 6 hours. i almost quit

second day wasn't much better

but third day, that weedwhacker felt a lot lighter and those six hours didn't seem so long

idk if it was my pathetic little twigs i call arms actually got stronger in just those few days, or if it was all mental

but from then on, it was an easy job

and with the bike, it's not like i ever stopped riding; it is still the way i do most transportation. just i haven't done long or faster rides for a long time. but i'm sure it will come right back and by next month, i'll feel a lot better

About a month and a half ago I applied for a job, and I was told I'd hear back "in a couple weeks".

Then I was interviewed and told I did very well, and that I'd hear back in a couple of weeks.

A week ago I sent a follow-up e-mail asking what was going on, and was told I was one of the last two candidates and I would hear back in a couple of weeks.

Two days ago I realized I didn't include contact information for one of my references and I just sent an e-mail including said info to the guy who's making the decision.

Now I'm concerned over whether or not that was a gauche move?

What do y'all enlightened folk think?

funnily enough, for my job starting on monday i went in this past wednesday looking to do volunteer work (it's a local organisation that does recovery care for people with psychiatric disorders and substance abuse issues that my family has a history with) but during my interview re what i'd be doing the person i spoke to decided without my consultation that she wanted to pay me for my time instead

Doesn't that totally defeat the purpose of volunteer work

Like I mean in the platonic sense of volunteer

Clearly the platonic sense

well, yes, it is no longer volunteer work but a paid position which kind of blunts the philosophical and moral braggability

but since i honestly went in with the intention of working there with no personal gain, it's more like best of both worlds

i just find it noteworthy since the idea of them deciding to pay me, having not seen my resume or experience or anything, for what i'd be happy do for free, seems like something that isn't usually supposed to happen

and because it taught me an important lesson re working hard and sending my resume to dozens of businesses with no results earlier in the summer versus accidentally leveraging a social network i didn't even really realize i had and having good fortune fall into my lap so easily i feel weirdly guilty about it

and while i went in interested in doing volunteer work specifically because denial of the self personal growth etc, i will admit that i had no desire to refuse their generous offer

Don't ever feel guilty about using your social network to find a job. It's ugly but it's how it work (best).

Just don't be an asshole about it.

Moving needs to be less of a pain in the ass. On the bright side I just traded off my TV for an MBP so I have something that will run FCPX, so I've cut down on my concerns of "what to do with the crap that's too big" dramatically.
