That post by her really offended me. As usual, it's all about her. She's an ignorant asshole.

My ADHD experiences are weird. If you notice in my post, I said "Sometimes they engage my random (to them) connections with various topics." I do this a lot. The connections make sense to me, but others see it as random. I have Da Vinci Code logic when it comes to my waning attention span. This means that the connections exsit on little to no level but make sense to me. Dan Brown! :argh:

Man I would say that but I had Dalton deactivate my account. Simon Jester has convinced me that the so called smartest board is too dumb to live so its indefinite walkaway time.

I'm reserving the right to return later just in case. Going out with a blaze doesn't automatically come with glory. Ide like to save it just in case one day Joss Whedon posts publically he will never do firefly again so I can go back on and post a big "HAW FUCK YOU NERDZ."

Or even better, maybe .303 Booktard will be poor one day through some personal tragedy and I can tell him he can get dumpster diving pointers from Broomstick.

At the moment I'm just thinking of the satisfaction I'd get with helping my children understand the concepts. Tutors are great. I use them. You do what you have to.

Yeah. I failed math twice and don't really have the temperment for that sort of thing. Better for all that I not help.

i'm gonna be the shoulder devil to phant's shoulder angel and say that if you're going to ban yourself, do it in a funny way. like, for example, take the scandinavia webcomic things thanas does every so often. you could look up the author's fetishistic or racist comics through google and post them and possibly get banned (especially if you did it more than once) and that would make mighty troll-lords such as myself laugh from our ironic thrones. but now that i've said this in public it wouldn't be funny because people would assume we put you up to it. alternatively you could quietly quit, but where's the boffo laffs in that?

Just dismiss the arts rather smugly

ps I haven't actually read that thread
well the majority of communications skills are taught through composition courses (part of the arts), and integrating them into other career tracks would soak up more time and demand ever-increasing specialization- or the blind leading the blind. or we could use actual specialization that already exists for purposes like this, eg english departments.
What exactly do you mean by communication skills
it's just that I suspect that good communications skills could (should) be taught at schools
but you may well be thinking of something other than I am
the ability to communicate arguments, supporting evidence, and beliefs clearly through speech and writing, which ideally might be taught in schools, but often aren't. in any case, the disdain for the arts hardly ends at college.

I took a Human Communication course my first year at community college. We talked about how to deliver speeches, argumentation, supporting evidence, dealing with relationships of all kinds, group think, problem solving in groups, love and intimacy, etc. It was a good class.

Our secondary education (14yrs +) takes 4-5 years, depending on the school, leading to graduation at 18 or 19.
Austrian students probably learnt these things during their high school education. We can't deselect courses like maths, German and English or natural sciences like US pupils can, repeating them at university would be unnecessary and detract from the primary field of study.
this doesn't happen
my state mandates currently
lit+comp: 4 years
math: 4 years
natural sciences: 3 years
social sciences: 3 years
phys ed+health: 1 year
art: 1 year
foreign languages: 2 years

similar in new york

though at the college level some institutions have different definitions of things than others; a private school might consider course X to be english or humanities whereas the state school might only be willing to count it as english

but still

and of course there's a list of requirements for the high school too
