Speaking of which, has one of the four posters over there with working braincells ever called them out on that? I'd love to see the results.

The dude paints himself as Heidegger's successor. He's full on Teutonic pretension the likes of which is rarely seen in the world.

What I find funny is the fact that the guy taking 2,500 pages to explain his idea(s?) is marketed as a sign of quality of the reflection held. Somehow.

Doesn't he realize that paying taxes is patriotic? That taxes keep democracy on the march? That we need Taxes for guns?

You know, I've thought on occassion maybe it wouldn't be the worst idea to have a system where (within reason) people who support a policy have to disproportionately feel whatever negative effects it has (if it's a tax increase they get taxed more, if it's a spending cut their benefits are cut more, if it's a war or a big labor project they're the first to get drafted etc.).

I mean, I don't know if it actually is a good idea or not (wouldn't be surprised if it's actually really dumb if you really think about it), but the idea has a certain gut-level appeal to me. Put your money where your mouth is, and it might ease resentment on the other side to know their opponents cared enough about the objective good of the policy to opt for it even if it would themselves worst.

But I think of it as a "within reason you shouldn't be willing to demand things of others you aren't willing to do yourself" thing, not a blatant "fuck the people who disagree with me and let's try to disincentivize them from doing so" thing which is the feeling I get out of that post.

it sounds pretty good to me

surely asking the people who want something to work for it is better than forcing those who don't want it to do the work

There;s no way to enforce that without getting rid of the secret ballot, and you can have that when you take it from my cold, dead hands.

The beauty of it is that it doesn't need enforcement.

Take a vote for war. If you want those who support it to be the ones primarily fighting it, then don't draft anyone. Have a fair economy so working class people don't feel the military is their only option to make a living, and don't punish soldiers who refuse to fight.

Now the only people who actually go through with it will be ones who support the war.

I assumed you meant 'this is a good idea to implement right now' rather than 'this would be the natural result of a future socialist utopia'.

The point is that enforcement is the problem, not the solution. There's no need to get rid of the secret ballot.

If you want people who agree with a war to be the ones fighting it.... then have a volunteer military rather than a draft. (Though to have this fully implemented means addressing inequality, of course.)

If you want people who agree with a tax to be the ones who pay more of it.... then ask for donations instead of levying a tax. Then the people who don't agree simply won't donate.

I thought he was already some kind of anarchist

though tbh, they're close enough that its not really worth differentiating imo

both get filed safely away in the 'things that would never, ever work unless people were suddenly not cripplingly stupid' bin, regardless

i've always said we were going to get new lols when adr finally decided to check out anarchism

anyway hey HPCA watchers have there been any new posts on Petraeus? i bet old Stuart's either devastated by the unprofessionalism of his treasured ~most intellectual general~, or fuming with rage at the ~media hit job~ on america's greatest hero :america:

i'm leaning towards there being some hilarious conspiracy theories flying around over there but as always i cannot be arsed to look for myself

If my files on him are correct, the answer to this question would be that he has been one before when he was younger.

Also, he likes Ron Paul.
