I still have difficulties proceeding the fact that the USSR still nominally existed at some point in my lifetime, as for as long as I can remember it had been something gone, existing only in the history books.

I've grown in the post-Cold War world. Growing up I wondered why we were using a money other than the dollar.

I started learning english by watching Cartoon Network, when Freakazoid and the Animaniacs were still airing.

I've always had a computer. I've spent countless afternoons on Doom or Duke Nukem 3D - I remember all the secrets by head.

I'm just old enough to have known the beginning of broadband internet connection.

I was 11 when 9/11 happened.

Because I'm thinking of learning the Mandolin, here's some Queensryche. They've done a really good job using both instruments to cover the lack of vocals.

It might actually be better then the original, which is one of my most favouritest songs.

Re: 300 sequel: FUCK YES

Re: Quebec: I've given up on defending them when people slander them in casual conversation. If this is part of a plot to get the rest of the country to say "fuck off then" next time we have a separation referendum, they're doing a good job.

It's frustrating seeing Marois trying to claim the Canadian soccer fed doesn't have jurisdiction over QSF, because that's totally how it works. Then when the constitution says otherwise… and now FIFA has agreed with common sense and reason and tolerance. So what leg so they have to stand on now? Idiots.

We should organize a game on the front lawn of the National Assembly in Quebec City. Everyone wears a turban or hijab.

To give you a clue how much older I am my memories of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union are as faded and contradictory as my memories of watching the earlier seasons of TNG when it was first broadcast.

This doesn't tell me much I'm afraid, apart from the fact that you were born before 1987, and could have been between 6 and 12 in 1989.

so i just chatted to a couple mormon missionaries on the street in front of my house. like always, they were very friendly, but a first actually happened: they wanted to talk about Jesus

seriously, i've chatted to missionaries a few times but the talk is usually off topic and the most they do is give me a pamphlet at the end so this was kinda new. we still had the off topic talk too but the last minute was actually on topic!

anyway i decided to accept their gift, a copy of the book of mormon, and told them i'll prolly be around in the afternoons of most days if they want to talk some more later

(hopefully they won't come by tomorrow tho cuz i won't actually be here! i won't have time to look at the book by then either)

so this'll prolly be interesting. i have no intention of joining their church but i am genuinely curious about their faith

indeed, it works

and that's prolly why they're always very friendly and often off topic chats too, because otherwise they'd just have no chance of talking to people at all; i wouldn't feel too bad about telling a rude spammer to leave me alone, but nice people gotta be treated nice right back, even if you don't really care about the message

oh my god didn't jesus christ say something like that?????????????????

and they prolly know from experience too how long they can talk before outstaying their welcome, which is why they disengage on their own before too long, so things end on a high note

i've heard stories of people being harassed by pushy missionaries but i've never experienced that myself

At least once a year we have a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on the door.

-those- one are annoying.

Funnily enough, they are always stranger : last time the guy who talked to me had a spanish accent so thick I had to use a knife to make sense of his complaints for mercy, then before that it was black african women...

I can't tell if this was on purpose or not, but now you sound like a serial killer.
