see, the beauty of being executed is i die in the end and at that point ima prolly not gonna care much about how it went down

so anyway speaking of a slow torture, my book is sooooooo boring to write and there seems to always be another deadline around the corner. chapter 5 is due tomorrow and i've only 1/3 written it so far. it'll prolly take another eight hours to finish writing this but i have a hard time spending eight minutes on it

I still don't think you're really thinking through this. Yeah, we all die in the end, but the lead up to that moment is not exactly fun. Especially when you know exactly when it's going to happen.

It's the torture of anticipation. Or, in the case of crucifixion, the torture of anticipation followed by days of agony.

Edit: Dammit, Phant! Can you at least get the word filter to recognize when we use capital letters?!

adr wrote:being crucified would be a great PR stunt. if i was to be executed, that'd be my preferred method. i read a thing earlier with even some pro-death penalty ppl being upset about a death by lethal injection that lasted like 20 minutes

imagine what their response would be as i hang on the cross for DAYS. PS turns out i'm kinda innocent.

i could abolish capital punishment!

aber dances just aren't my thing.
Iirc crucifixion, while painful and hilarious isn't that slow a death. Supposedly you'd suffocate as your shoulders slumped/dislocated and your diaphragm collapsed. Hell if you believe the Bible, Jesus died in a matter of hours.

According to the show I saw on it, it all depends on the specifics.

If you were beaten half to death before hand, you might expire in hours. On the other hand, there's supposedly record of someone who survived 9 days.

Even if death came quickly, well, there aren't many ways to die that are more painful or horrifying (especially if the crucifixion is one involving nails rather than merely rope). Offhand, I can only think of five that are even comparable: quartering (especially in the English fashion), burning, scaphism, the wheel and drowning (the last of which is relatively preferable from all the others).

I know he's pretty conservative, especially compared to the company he kept online. Since moving to the sticks I've met lots of people, liberal and conservative alike with disgusting views on the First Nations. If you're white its one of the last groups where its socially acceptable to be a racist douchebag too.

He posted some more stuff about how they weren't mistreated because the king said to be nice, and it was pointed out that the British completely wiped out the aboriginal Tasmanians.

Their culture was totally obliterated and the survivors were put into a concentration camp where they all died, but there are still some descendants of kidnap and rape victims so they're not REALLY extinct.

Small, sparsely spread groups of people who are trapped in Stone Age hunter gathering or Bronze/Iron Age village stasis are going to get steamrolled by an incoming civilisation that's vastly superior in logistics, population, and technology that's pathologically expansionist, no matter what and how unfairly brutal it is.

It reminds of an example of an Outside Context Problem from Iain M. Banks' Excession where isolated islanders get conquered by men in a iron clad steamship.
