Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
Not to mention it used to take a lot more to push the mods to action. I remember when DarkStar was banned, and he basically had to start psychotically ranting about a warsie conspiracy and shit up the entire vs. forum for weeks to get banned.Gands wrote:It's a hallowed "SDN tradition."
Like a lot of things, they started as silly fun. Then...
I think the bans started coming faster after that whole "weekend of hell" incident where everyone started flaming each other. The moderator staff decided to take a more active stance to keep something like that happening and it just spun out from there.

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
I don't know. I was stuck at my dad's without internet access for the whole thing, so I'm still kind of fuzzy on exactly what happened. To me SDN's disintegration seemed like the result of a series of clashes between board members that eventually saw everyone interesting leave. The "Weekend of Hell" was the first, then you had the whole blowup where Wayne Poe quit the Vs. scene entirely because of the board's increasingly negative attitude towards Americans and fat people, and finally you had the Senate/Testing fiascoes.
Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
Poe left because he was being such a fucking dickhole in an argument with Hav that when Hav basically laid the smack down even Mike wouldn't stand up for his fatass.Darksi4190 wrote:I don't know. Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
SDN is really different about bans than most boards I've seen. For a lot of places, you get warning and stuff, but then you move pretty quickly to temp bans. Not the 6 months to a year type SDN used to do, but stuff like a couple days or even a week at most. You could probably rack up a few of those before they finally move on to a permban.
SDN meanwhile always treated as the solution of last resort. Even the temp bans were for Major Infractions. They relied mostly on the whole negative title, taking away sig/av privileges, resetting postcounts (I think they did that like once, to Spanky) and such.
I kinda got it at the start, because IIRC with the original software only an Admin account could ban (at least I think so; maybe it was something DW did with the permissions? I don't remember phpBB2 really) so I guess there was that (then again they were the only ones who could do the rest of the stuff so...) and that mentality toward punishment has remained. Except they barely bother with the 'lesser' punishments anymore, so I suppose that's what makes it seem like it takes "less" to get banned. There used to be a process of sorts, now it's they essentially wait until you've caused enough ruckus (whatever that entails) and then off you go.

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
phpbb2 only let admins do bans and it didn't have a temp ban function built in, so you'd have to get teh admin on to undo it later too

Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
speaking of chuck, I can't help but think who ever is wasting money on SG-1 Reviews is pretty silly.
After the pilot and the second episode. We jumped to half way through season 1. Then the 100th episode. (and all can be said about that one is 'do you like in-jokes and lampshading cliche? if yes you like if no you dont) And now Death Knell from S7. Death Knells an important episode to be sure. But its the pay of dozens of other episodes Chuck won't even have touched upon before. Jaffa Rebellion. Tok'Ra, Anubis. Etc. It's just not a good pick.
On the other hand, after reading the latest blog post, I might actually pay for the second half of the BSG 2 parter. If I had income. Chuck actually has reasonably interesting things to say about BSG.

That depends. Does magic underwear count as protection?evilsoup wrote:I'm pretty sure that's against adr's new religion
Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
surely magic would be witchcraft
which would require adr to kiss satan's anus
prolly not what the mormonions were hoping for
he'd get a bear look from the village elder (or whatevs)

so I was just asked if I want to be a friends' "man of honor"
I replied "do I get to wear a fancy dress????"
and she said no I should wear the Linux mascot penguin instead
weird
but hey I don't judge

No. Only Fedoras are cool. Have you even seen Indiana Jones?
Re: Testing Chat Episode VI: Return of the Chat
i left my tv on and one of the "dna drama" shows came on
the host keeps asking "how important is this test to you?"
my reply would be "meh it is an academic curiosity". the whole dna test stuff is so ridiculous to me.
speaking of blood tests, idk what my blood type is. i'm told if i give blood they'll tell me the type. but on the down side i'll HAVE MY PRECIOUS BLOOD OF LIFE SUCKED OUT OF ME
ima prolly do it this saturday tho
