I mean honestly I'm not much fussed about Australia becoming a republic, right. Doing so right now could potentially cement the toxic national self-image that exists. Waiting until we've evolved beyond this third wave of nationalistic racism seems like a better bet.

But becoming a republic on Abbott's watch would piss him off no end, and I'm all for that.

Unfortunately this is going to give Quebec nationalists a sense that they can try again, I've already seen snippets of it on Twitter.

Even though it cost the PQ the provincial election last time around when one of their star candidates turned the provincial election into a bizarre pseudo referendum.
