RIP New Testingstan, 201?-2017

#1 Post by Bounty »

Died of neglect, but will live on in our hearts. Like a tumour.

If anyone happens to still read this, now might be a good time to drop alternative contact info.

I recall invitations to other boards being run by posters here. I didn't really become active on those boards due to thinking I already had enough forums, as well as other assorted internet nonsense, to eat up my time, but perhaps we should collectively choose one of those boards to go to?

Kinda feel guilty....

yea it is kind of a shame, this place was a laugh
I did sign up for xon's forum. Is there any space for a testingstan pity party thread over there I wonder
got an inactive wordpress blog (evilsoup.wordpress.com) with mostly fiction, some of which is good. Also have a tumblr (again, evilsoup); I mostly use this as a sort of newsfeed, but feel free to follow send messages etc. (Will probably have a more active political theory blog up sometime, but no way am I going to leave any pathway for my revolutionary marxist persona to be linked back to a My Little Pony fanfiction lol)
Kinda feel guilty....
no need to feel guilty mang
but yeah it's funny: this place has been dead for ages, but it feels a lot more real now that a thread has been posted. I wouldn't have thought it, but it is a bit emotional. "The end of an era", except that's too grandiose a cliche.

I keep thinking I should write up my ideas for a 6th season of Breaking Bad. But I never came up with a good name for the crystal ice dragon.

I'm waffling on the idea of setting up an IRC server. If anything gets up and running in the next month or so I'll leave details here.

Sigh, it was OK while it lasted, but this place was more like a tiny break room than a convention centre or shopping mall, to use a loose metaphor.

Also I was distracted in the past year by my dad recovering from a dangerous operation.

Where was that?

Seems like a good starting point to try to recover our forum that just can't be allowed to die! :duchess:

Sorry, had to get some sarcasm in there.

Edit: Sufficient Velocity? I actually did set up an account, but never started posting for some reason.

yea sufficient velocity
I think I've made, like, three posts lol
I guess I just haven't really had time for webforums etc recently

I don't know if there's a subforum there that would be suitable for the tone of a testinstan refugee camp thread though

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I check the forums more or less daily. It's just that no one says anything other than me.

Probably isn't, but that's not really what I had in mind. I was thinking more in terms of just the population migrating and integrating into the new forum.

Something like that anyhow.

He was more lucky than unlucky (look at celebs like Bill Paxton and Carrie Fisher dying very young from maltreated heart conditions fairly recently) but I appreciate the condolences.

So the plan is we're hopping over to SV or/and SB?

I can be found at SV these days; it's basically the only forum I really visit and/or participate in. Baks occasionally shows up there just to implode by being contrarian.

I can also be located on Discord as Jovi#1961. I imagine that there is room for a NewTestingstan discord channel; I find that small communities have an easier time communicating if they're forced to pay attention by virtue of being glued to other communities they also pay attention to, and Discord makes a convenient vehicle for such.

I've enjoyed all of your assorted companies for the shockingly many years I have known/known of you all, regardless. Being a part of this group and its thesis of becoming disenchanted and disillusioned with "the intellectual crucible" helped make me a better person.

Yes, making yourself feel big by making others feel small if they don't deserve that treatment all the time doesn't work.

not necessarily a bad way to build group cohesion
(well I mean, it is bad, but it can be effective)
definitely not a good way to get at anything like an objective assessment of reality. Or, more importantly, for an objective assessment of which fictional spaceship has enough pew-pews to beat another spaceship

You don't need to start a whole IRC server yourself, just register a channel on an existing network. I hang out on Synirc, there's a bunch of SA goon channels there.

Also guys not sure if you've heard the news but AIM is shutting down soon.
