Honestly trying to turn weekly video podcasts into an actual job is a fool's errand. Unless you're trying to provide some kind of review service for physical products, banking on your own personality to talk about whatever you want is just not sustainable.

Seems to be working out for at least a few people out there.

Of course it's probably not a great living, not enough to go build sets and stuff like they're trying to do. I suspect that's the main reason for the funding drive: they could probably keep at it bit by bit but it'd take forever. Otherwise they seem to be able to live off what they've been doing so far.

Probably. Damn Ukrainians. Villains of the Internet. :argh:

Yesterday I flew to Vancouver to see JAY Z and Justin Timberlake live in concert in a stadium. Second arena/stadium concert ever.

It was amazing.

Well, I didn't realize that DeviantArt sent notifications when you follow people. I followed some sort of softcore porn/glamour model so I could find her stuff more easily later. She sent me a 'thank you' note. I'm sure it's canned, but man. How awkward I feel right now.

It's really, really weird seeing photos of me at my job in China. I know I was there, I recall everything (well, most of it, they had good cocktails), but it feels like it wasn't me who lived and worked there. It's a freakishly weird feeling :-/

For the life of me I can't figure out why I wasn't into Marilyn Manson when I was in high school. Holy Wood would have fit me to a T.

Yeah, "Holy Wood", "Antichrist Superstar" and "Mechanical Animals" are arguably his best albums.

"Portrait Of An American Family" and "Smells Like Children" are also good in a retro kind of way.

"Golden Age Of Grotesque" has a number of good songs, but also some weak ones. It's not a bad album per se, but you can tell he started losing his edge around then.

I must confess I haven't tried listening to his later album, given the really critical reception they've received.

"If I was Your Vampire" is a good song, Oxy.

lol did you know windows XP uses ~responsive design~

i just booted the vm in 640x480 resolution and the welcome screen has a diff layout

OH SHIT A BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH

time to uninstall that driver. but regardless this ain't half bad as it is now. windows xp pro!!!!!!111 IIS 5.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

INTERNET EXPLORER 6!!!!!!!!11!!11!11!11!!11!11!!11

and the guest cpu usage is manageable. last time i tried this it pissed me off that it was like constantly at like 10%

now it is 1-3%. seems like the KVM thing has really improved in the last five years.

the next things i want to do is set up a linux thing like the work server

try windows vista in a vm (i wonder if i can reuse my retail license key since it is already installed on my broken screen laptop)

and this see if this reactos bullshit even works

and then install all the useless bullshit i hate like google chrome on that and pray to god that the integration works with the rest of my system. then when i gotta use that garbage i can do it on the vm and not be so angry

This is a hazy memory from Way Back When but I think .NET uses idle time to precompile... stuff right after install. Check the task manager. It goes away after a while.

Yeah, it seems to have stabilized when i left it running overnight. Ate a total of 18 minutes of cpu time over ten hours, not too bad.

Turning on sound emulation sucks though, it is either super high cpu (especially when idle) or really choppy.... and of course, the host is linux so that sucks anyway.

Sleep mode isn't working though. My ideal solution would be to put the emulator to sleep and wake it up when i want to use it. That should be zero cpu when idle and very fast response otherwise. But ugh. Oh well, it still beats digging out the laptop every time I gotta test something on Windows.

oh great, another Sarkeesian video, another round of TERRIBLE internet comments *smirk*

before my eyes melted i had time to see someone declare not only that sexism doesn't exist and must exist because "the average man can lift ANY woman but the average woman can't lift ANY man" (okay buddy great slogan) but also something about how it's totally unfair and discrimination that black entertainment tv exists but not white entertainment tv :america:

i am ANGRY and here's a bunch of OTHER STUFF i'm ALSO angry about :argh:

but my favourite argument must be "yeah well if you don't like it maybe like you shouldn't like yeah why do you buy it then if it pisses you off so much vote with your wallet :smug: ( :america: ) "
somehow they miss the irony that it then must also be equally possible for these humans to just not watch those videos if it tickles their death-and-rape-threat-making genes so much.

even though that is the most popular retort to any sort of criticism of anything on youtube (i guess it only goes one way - ie. the one who says it first wins)
