huh...why does the battroid mode fly?

Because it's easier to animate it hovering than it is to make walk or give it more advanced features like jumping like the later games :v

The book with the poster I showed on the previous page is all about the game has a lot of plans for more elaborate gameplay features and cool transformation diagrams

this is one of five just for the VF-1

sadly the final game is very rough and has a bunch of common Playstation graphical faux pas like all that distortion and popup you see in the video

also the fighter mode is impossible to control because it turns way too fast and the throttle seems to have either "fucking slow" or "blazing speed" for settings

It was my first import Playstation game. I loved it at first and then hated it late, but in the end I think it's an interesting artifact. It seems like even a mediocre Japanese game has a lot of work put into it. One of the cooler sections in the book contains these beautiful water color paintings of level concepts that aren't in the final game to any noticeable degree. Also it has hilariously low-res screencaps of the in game Valkyrie models blown up to about five inches tall.

Also I find the progression in characters who speak to be really funny. I cut the briefing but it's like ok

The grizzled captain talks to you

Then the hot blonde woman KAREN AREN briefs you on the mission.

Next you have ace mechanic Yuuri Yui dutifully explain the [TECH] to the robot you're choosing.

Karen does the whole launch sequence talking part and talks to you during the mission.

And the end Karen is like hey you got a personal message incoming from the MILKY DOLLS singer you just rescued.

Collect all five Milky Dolls and they put on a concert for you.
