like that episode of gurren lagann where the whole of team dai-gurren lech out over a 12 year old girl
but still

the thing is, if the johns are afraid of being arrested, I would have thought that it would force the prostitutes into more dangerous situations -- they'd have to stay out of sight, albeit not as much as they would have to under the current system (so however you look at it, legalising prostitution would be better than nothing). I don't know. It might go some way towards shifting the power balance.
Legalizing the johns does not help the prostitutes, it helps only the johns and the pimps. It'll also expand the market, in turn making more people turn to prostitution, but obviously pretty much only poor or broken people. The stigma of being a "whore" would remain, or even be increased as destitute foreigners flock to take part in your new haven of sexual freedom and outsell the locals, while the word "whoremonger" silently disappears from popular spell checkers and its modern replacements carry little negative connotations and sometimes even positives ones with rides a-pimpin' etc.
As for more dangerous situations, this is not the actual experience of countries like Sweden where the act of selling sex is not illegal, but buying is. You wouldn't expected it to happen anyway, as it's not the secrecy that creates the danger, it's the situation where you let unstable people have power over you.
We also have the added bonus of scores of internet shitheads complaining in every comment section about how totally unfair it is that "we aren't allowed to buy it but the whores are allowed to sell and advertise it and they know we men cannot resist the pull of our penises to have sex in exchange of money"
designer bodies of an 11-year-old with a moneyback guarantee that she's actually totally legal
how about actual economic pressure to make 11-year-olds legal
what could go wrong with a market

you know, personally, i have always thought of maine residents as being just like characters from stephen king novels, so my basic visual impression of you is that you're randall flagg but a lady, while we're on the subject of revealing shameful things about ourselves

yeah I freely admit that I haven't really put that much thought into this
pissing off MRAs is a nice added bonus, and if the evidence points one way then I'm all for following that
how about actual economic pressure to make 11-year-olds legal
what could go wrong with a market
I sure hope nobody ever takes this thread out of context lol
but IDK that might be a bit too on the nose for me to actually write, since I'm thiking of it as a sort of lighthearted insane satire
might work as a last minute extra vomitous twist or something I guess

It wasn't racism against all Japanese, it was a joke about the otakus in particular who seem to have a fascination with lolicon, seeing how deeply ingrained it seems to be in manga / anime culture.
But heh, it was meta in the first place, and making jokes / blanket statements about a group of people is meh anyway, I'll give you that.
But then we have to stop making jokes about the rich and powerful, too, if we want to not be hypocrites, so I'm not sure...

I got mildly annoyed at how non-American foreigners were depicted in Independence Day.
