If you're going to call anything as anti-Occupy, it would be CODBLOPS 2.

Which has you openly fighting the leader of a group called "The 99%"

It has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

And it's still not the most tasteless brown fps in the pipeline

They were ineffective from the get-go. All they managed to do was get brutalized by corrupt cops. I am not saying their efforts weren't noble, but they didn't really do much.

Occupy's problem was that they were so paranoid about being co-opted that they refused to take any meaningful action except to just protest and stay stagnant.

Anybody who suggest taking any kind of political action was shouted down as trying to co-opt OWS.

EDIT: lmao how did this carepost get here

Well it wasn't helped by the constant stream of bs from the MSM, calling them hippies, drug addicts and rapists.

Well that last part wasn't helped by several occupy groups circling the wagons around literal rapists to "protect the reputation of the movement"

i don't agree that occupy is ineffective. they are getting mind share, adding to the conversation.

not as effective as we might wish, not going after the goals we might want, but what they're doing is important. getting people talking is the first step to any change

IMO occupy had a good amount of success in shifting the Overton window and stemming some of the rightward shift led by the tea party.

What talking, what conversation? I'm saying it's ineffective because I don't see those, I haven't seen any news or read anything about them in months, if it weren't for Brandon and Rhea I would have thought the movement died off.

They have effectively been ignored by the media and your politicians once the novelty wore off and they had been painted as nutjobs.

i've seen a lot of talking - the 'occupy' brand if you will, along with the '99%' and the '1%' are referenced a *lot* in left wing circles, and it gives a nice chance to discuss wealth inequality (there's been a lot of books published about this recently too, I've seen two getting a lot of air time, one by Chris Hayes and one by Joseph Stiglitz), labor unions, police brutality and other things that just a few years ago would have been shut down as silly class warfare nonsense

but see what you get on a web search:
http://www.bing.com/search?q=occupy&qs= ... &sp=-1&sk=

for me the word "occupy" brought up links for Fox News, The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, Huffington Post, The New York Times, and others, all with fairly recent dates

they aren't front page and aren't dominating the cycle, but they are there

ADR: "left wing circles" implies that the message is not out in the open.

They failed to capitalise on her support that they fleetingly had gained. As others said, the desire to not appear to be coopted and obsession with "collective decision making" etc just crippled them, forcing them into a super passive golden mean bullshit loop.

This let the other side control the narrative even more effectively as, for all of Occupy's best intentions, wishy washy statements that waffle on aren't going to make the cut for a news broadcast. They'll either go with the statements from the police / corporations alone, or take the worst example they can find as their "balance".

Maybe next time they'll a) figure out that all the Internet goodwill in the world still doesn't matter a goddamn (and don't even try and compare it to the Arab Spring) and b) unity is great and all, but maybe next time you pick a position, pick a spokesperson and shove them in front of cameras to get soundbites out all day long. Idealism once again proves to be the downfall of idealists.

When he takes control of Gotham, he is a massive tyrant, and the government is completely and explicitly useless at preventing or countering any of his power plays. Plus there's whole thing where he talks at length about hope, and how he is secretly using it as a weapon to destroy society.

Bane in the movie covers just about every aspect of the imaginary Obama cooked up in the fever dreams of Fox News.
Up until the last sentence I thought it sounded like you were going to say Bane was an allegory of Al Quaeda/t3h t3rr0rists.

Foreign militants hostile to the shitty establishment but just as bad or worse than it themselves.

Yeah, they did at least get a visible populist movement that wasn't right-wing/"libertarian" into the national conversation.

virtually every occupy group i'm in contact with is focusing on local and regional issues and working to get sympathetic people into their local and state governments, along with creating and volunteering in community service stuff

all the practicality in the world is precisely zero help if getting out your message is dependent on the very organizations and system that are working against your movement and so we've by and large shifted our focus onto the old saying of "all politics is local"

not necessarily; it more reflects my bias cuz i don't follow the right wing talkers as much so idk what they do. i also haven't watched the big network news broadcasts for quite a while. i haven't even finished setting my tv up here at the new house yet.

but there's a lot of inertia to overcome for the occupy folks, can't get discouraged yet

For Occupy brand hilarity, you can go no further than Cr Doyle, the noble and enlightened Lord Mayor of Australia, wait, no - Victoria, shit, that's not it either. Melbourne. Well, Melbourne cbd at least, not the whole metropolitan area. Don't you dare try to tell him that though.

I saw Moonrise Kingdom today.

Was not a fan.
