I've started on my major assignments for the semester. One of which is a 4000 word biography on Kevin Smith, during which I'll focus on his later career. It's interesting, because there's bugger all scholarly material written, so it's primary sources ahoy for me.

Check your university's resources. Do you have interlibrary loan?

Yeah, there are books concerning his work, but nothing past JSBSB.

Luckily, I've listened to nearly every one of his podcasts. There's more than enough primary source material to write the essay, but the secondary is... eugh.

Why did you choose him of all filmmakers?

I find him to be a fascinating person. His films are a great example of a person who grows up immersed in and obsessed with popular culture, and subsequently makes films that reflect that. He, Tarantino and others are what happens when obsessive consumers become producers.

Also, Mallrats is one of my favourite films ever.

UPDATE: Ford replied, he's fine, just busy. Says he'll be back on Wednesday or thereabouts.
