Godammed SDN
Re: Godammed SDN
I liked Adumar(the one after the one I'm reading) because happy ending(Wedge got to bang this girl he's been in love with for a while)
Also (personal opinion) Alston was better at developing characters
I am slamming the brackets today ey

TBH after reading Wraith Squadron I was kinda hoping for more from Adumar, but it had a completely different tone than what I was expecting. Zahn's books are still the best beside the obvious weaknesses and criticisms.
Re: Godammed SDN
Adumar was an interesting case study in how all of Stackpole's books would have been if Alston had written them
None of this 'try to make Corran Horn a relatable character because he chose not to become a jedi because he's a former cop who became a starfighter pilot wait what'

And it came out in 1999. Clearly, Stackpole is a prophet.timmy wrote:Speaking of Wars I've been re-reading the X-Wing series
In the penultimate book, set just after the end of the Thrawn crisis, Wedge Antilles suggests that suspected WMDs are enough justification to attack a sovereign nation and kill its leader
What the fuck Stackpole
IIRC they only found the "WMD" thingy after they started the invasion though, and Ackbar and Wedge did kinda agree the invasion was on pretty shaky ground but the NR was basically doing it to prove they were still viable after Thrawn wrecked their shit. I imagine that "Death Star III" fake thing they found was just latched on in an attempt to provide further justification after the fact.
Zahn has no weaknesses and to criticize his work is heretical.Stofsk wrote:Zahn's books are still the best beside the obvious weaknesses and criticisms.
More seriously though, I think most of what people complain about Zahn tends to be a little overblown. Or at the worst something he got into over time. I mean, Thrawn was hot shit in the original trilogy but he was by no means infallible after all.

Re: Godammed SDN
Stackpole's X-wing Novels are bland, and the character work is much worse than anything in Alliston's, but they're still decent reads.
I've been re-reading the Rogue Squadron comics that Stackpole did though and they're actually pretty good. Maybe it's the different medium, but the characters seem more animated.

Re: Godammed SDN
I think Lucas does have a sort of "general idea" of what he wants to do with the SW tv show, but this talk of 50 episodes being written is clearly bullshit. He's just being to much of a perfectionist. He want's the special effects to look just like the awesome shit in the movies and he's never going to get that on a T.V. budget. Honestly, right now they don't really need to. The Clone Wars and TOR are financially successful, and doing a very good job in keeping the SW brand name out there, hell, they even have the occasional glimmer of quality to them. There's no real pressure to move forward with the live action series right now, so if Lucas wants to wait for new technology, no one's going to tell him otherwise.Nietzslime wrote:to me, all this star wars tv show stuff is a farce, so i grabbed the appropriate article to explain my feelings and intend to handle 'arguing' with hav likewise

That's true. How old is Lucas these days? He might want to get some last stuff done in the SW universe before he hands his legacy off to someone else.

Oh.
Here's a fun new idea! Speculate who should lead the franchise when Lucas croaks. I'm sure it'll be a well-reasoned discussion on the merits of various individuals and not a bunch of wishful thinking!

Please tell me you're joking, because I just got a mental image of Luke Skywalker speaking in Christian Bale's Batman Voice.

I think that Rick guy is just going to take over since he speaks for Lucas all the time anyways

Re: Godammed SDN
Christ I hope not. This is the guy who was to spineless to rein in Lucas during the Prequels, remember? I've always wished he'd get fired and replaced with someone who could actually say no to Lucas from time to time. Whenever someone's around to rein him in, Lucas can actually make something good.Veef wrote:I think that Rick guy is just going to take over since he speaks for Lucas all the time anyways
Re: Godammed SDN
I'm pretty sure Lucas would just fire someone who told him "no."
And when was the last time he made anything good on his own?
Red Tails and Indy 4 were pretty dire even with outside help.
The guy was a one trick pony.
