Depends on the gun, whether you do it forcefully or not. If I pull and release my sks bolt, then it's loud, if I do it under control then no.

My lever action can be done almost silently.

In short, tv gets almost anything to do with guns wrong.

The sounds in television are for DRAMA. Sometimes in the same scene you'll see a character pull the lever twice.

You can abuse it though. Too much emphasis on soundwork makes it seem like you're trying to compensate for a lack of legitimate tension.
