The difference Stark is that the US is legally a Republic, so common currency and free trade = no problem, that was settled before our Civil War. For better or worse we have one system setting things like reserve requirements, loan rates, bond rates, etc. From what I understand of the Euro system it's basically a bunch of independent states saying "I'm meeting our state standards for reserves and deficits and therefore can participate in the common currency I double promise I'm not Greece or Spain or France triple super secret promise I mean it this time" with little to support or enforce the requirements for inclusion in the EU currency system.

If starku can actually prove that the US provided false information to the EU in the formation of the common currency, as he seems to be implying happened, I'm all ears. If starku can show in any way that the current euro problems are America's fault, and the poor innocent states of Europe (except Germany they're always the villains ONE MILLION DOLLARS right?) had nothing to do with their current situation, I'm happy to look at that too. I'm also curious how Mr. Steve Starku Irwin is now a self-proclaimed authority on the Euro. But I'm not holding my breath.

Oi, Ryan, or is it 'wanker'? I don't know anymoar. Lemme tell you something. I wasn't looking at all, and neither was he. We were both at work, dirty, nasty, filthy, and all business. He was a redneck with a run-down old pick-em-up truck and coming off a truly horrible relationship on top, and I was a hardware store clerk with a habit of politics and getting the shop's cow manure all over me. I had literal bullshit on me half the time we talked if it wasn't pipe threading oil, sawdust, sweat, or whatever. He'd be coated in pipe glue or drywall mud or spattered in paint or the ever present SAWDUST. He'd look at me with a piercing blue-eyed stare that could kill and skin a whole bayou full of gators and peel all the crawfish, and he had the muscles to back up that stare to boot! We saw each other at our absolute worst and I still made nice because that was my job.

Several dozen of his trips and a *REALLY* gay friend of his later, and we fell for each other, hard. That was four years ago. Two and a half years ago, I moved in. Today, we participated in the commitment ceremony at Pridefest.

DO NOT fucking tell me you have it difficult, Ryan. Do or do not. There is no try.

You, Sir, are still smoking too many cigarettes at once. That is a suboptimal allocation of resources, even if they are your own personal resources it's wasteful and offensive. Nicotine is to be savored in measured doses, not gluttonously inhaled to the point of nausea. And your av is wearing a mask. I don't trust avs who wear masks. That's untrustworthy. You are banned! Oh boo berry

Spain had surpluses prior to the crash in 2007, and France is still economically afloat and doing fine

in fact greece is an outlier among all the economically depressed nations, used by the bourgeoisie as the thin end of the wedge to keep the world economically depressed and vulnerable to their efforts to establish industrial serfdom

ps three out of the four "PIGS" would only have qualified (under your understanding) if global socialist revolutions took place to supplant the capitalist model and its business cycle

american banks held a shitload of debt in europe, and when they imploded they seriously hurt european countries, and the general recession was caused by america, and austerian economics have held the most sway in the us of a for quite some time now

You know, I knew to a general extent that the globalisation of markets had led to the current economic crisis when the American banks all went under - it's pretty bloody obvious to anyone who knows even the first thing about the nature of capitalism, after all. It does, however, lead me to the conclusion that most capitalists seemingly fail to realise how their own system works. But since a series of depressive episodes have led me to avoid things that depress me (i.e.; the news) I didn't actually realise that it was so specifically and literally America's fault in as many areas.

Bloody hell.

see, lumping france, spain, and greece together, like you did in your jabbering, is nonsensical, as each of the three have different problems

france has a demand crunch from the overall recession

spain is dealing with that plus the collapse of a bubble they built their economy on

greece is dealing with the demand crunch plus a massively dysfunctional government plus a massive debt load plus this conception of economics as a sort of morality play

which is why greece is, despite jaerimuse's moaning and panting about how we're all gonna die, a-n-n-y day now, the only one of the depressed countries in europe to be at risk of defaulting- it has a collection of problems working together

Good job Stark, you're capitalizing the beginning of each sentence. Maybe we can work on spelling and punctuation when you're not being all E.E. Cummings for the lulz.

You tell me, or guess: was GS do goddamn good at obfuscating Greek debt and deficit ratios that the ECB, BNP Paribas, Generali, Societe General, Commerzbank, Deutsche Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland, all of which have billions of Euros in Greek bonds, had NO FUCKING IDEA the Greek government was lying about their position? GS is the bad guy in your mind, and if I were running GS (yes complete fantasy) I would have stayed away from a client seeking to mislead investors; have you considered the possibility that GS was the low bidder for what the Greek government wanted done? The whole Greek episode strikes me as a three monkeys see, hear and speak no evil scenario that worked for a while until it inevitably fell apart under the weight of too many obligations. Of course this is all just a thought exercise, I don't have any links. And I'm frothing at the mouth right now, yes I am. Just rabid.

You see, I'm an Un-American Pinko Commie Leftist Limey Bastard. And as an UAPCLLB, I would obviously be unaware of the virtues which are inherent to one of society's most iconic vices.

Mr. Bakendia, if I recall correctly, the required deficit ratio for inclusion into the Euro zone for any participating state is 3% lest they face fines. Of course, if they're in "recession" then there are no fines. Government debt cannot exceed 60% of GDP (crap, thank God AFY isn't in the Euro Zone!...or maybe it could be a GOOD thing...). There are other conditions, inflation of any member state must be within 1.5% of the top 3 member states' inflation rates, "exchange rates" must be in a quote unquote normal range for several years, the whores dispatched to Brussels embassies must be tested monthly for STDs, yadda yadda. Here are the stats for Spain and France:

Spain: deficit now at 8.5% of GDP. Were earlier year numbers a lie? Who the fuck knows. Debt ratio: 69.3%

France: deficit "could have dipped as low as 5.3 per cent of gross domestic product last year, putting France well on track to meet this year's target of 4.5 per cent." Eurozone inclusion without penalty is 3% just as a reminder. I'm suuurrreee France paid the ECB fines for exceeding that. France's debt ratio is 86.5% of GDP again from Wiki. So yeah, they're weak sisters in the Zone and no wonder Angela Merkel is putting on her iron panties. Italy's making progress on their deficit, even though it's above the Euromax it's declining year-over-year, but you really don't want to know their debt ratio. Okay it's 121% of GDP. Ireland's at 108%, I guess Bono and U2 heading for greener tax pastures years ago fooked them up. Germany BTW has a debt ratio of 82%. Poland, another Euro user, has a debt ratio of 56%.

Those damn Americans have screwed Europe again!
