I think the NSA would rather have you leave it on.

But where's the option to share with Big Brother? I guess you can't turn that one off.

People should probably start by having a clear idea of what they mean by "privacy" and what amount of it they really want before starting to rant about it being violated.

(and I say this as someone who heavily dislike using Facebook and is trying to find mean to stop using Google's services, just so you know)

yea, the stuff i post on the facebook is pretty boringly trivial already cuz my work clients are on it anyway and they don't need to know

but nevertheless if someone really wanted to search me on the web it wouldn't be hard to find all kinds of crazy shit (as you guys are well aware of course)

oh well

I'm not on Spacebattle.

I currently have only two "hangout" places on the web : here, and a pony-related forum (where I mostly talk about post-apocalyptic stuff :v ).

While there is some truth to this observation, I do think this is a pretty glib response to a general erosion of people's privacy rights that's taken place over the last decade or two. As Ford Prefect said in a related topic, the outrage is not that people can opt out of whatever electronic digital frontier that everyone else is part of (i.e. as a workable solution this is totally unfeasible, as you'd be cutting yourself off from what the mainstream social contact is nowadays and no mang is an island etc etc), it's that companies and governments think they can get away with constantly undermining people's privacy - the former even do so to make a quick buck, which IMO is far, far worse than the NSA hunting for tewwawists, Elmer Fudd style.

yeah exactly. the question they are hoping to answer isn't "what is rape" but "will i be considered a rapist if"

ie. a social question that completely excludes the victim from the equation except as a mindless parameter

but if someone thinks you have raped them there is basically no amount of science you can do to prove them wrong

Man, there were three woman on a lineman course when I was on my trades course (we were all in the same barracks) that were basically gang raped on film.

It made the MP's and JAG's job super easy but...fuck me. I don't think I'll ever forget that.

You know what bugs me about the whole NSA kerfuffle? Strangely, it's not the invasion of privacy (not that I'm okay with it mind you). It's the hypocrisy I see.

Given that I live in Texas I tend to get exposed to the right wing perspective and I am appalled how people who fell OVER themselves to make excuses for Bush (if you're not guilty, you don't have anything to worry about!) are doing the exact opposite for Obama. Granted, this sort of thing isn't limited to right-wingers, but my god it's irritating. Exacerbating the issue is that it seems that every other person feels the need to insert a political comment into every other conversation no matter how unrelated.

lack of feelings of being raped have proven elusive to being caught on video

but yeah basically stop thinking rape is a well-defined physical act and realize it's a psychological trauma, the exact triggers of which can differ between individuals and occasions, necessitating communication between involved parties to work out what's okay

Well Obama had warrants, Bush did it illegally. There is a difference.

So the fact Obama did something legally, something which has been approved and voted by the democratically elected members of congress make it worse enough to provoke popular outrage... how exactly ?
No.
