Y'know, I've had the thought on occassion that wrt the whole problematic expectations for 'beauty' in women in our culture, the informal collective standard that women are responding to is prolly much narrower and harder on women than the standards of most actual men. We as a culture don't even hold women to a fucked-up standard of putting being pleasing to men over comfort, practicality, and individual lifestyle choices, that'd be bad enough but what actually happens is even worse; what they're encouraged to judge themselves and other women against is a narrow idealized version of what men are attracted to.
At this point I insert the thought that there is a big fashion and cosmetics industry that basically makes its money by telling people (especially women) their faces and bodies are inadequate here buy our product so you can look good.

the cosmetics industry are doing their damndest to make men too believe they need make-up, but they are running into a roadblock in that most people think that's a ridiculous idea
they seem to be going about it rather clumsily though; i have seen ads trying to scare middle aged men about looking old, as if men as a group has already been broken down to such a marketable state
they should obviously target it at young adult men, like they do with that godawful axe perfume. not as something you need to look good enough, but something to look better, preferably better than others
then when enough people believe that, you can step it up a notch, make them believe they need it
though there was that site selling MANLY nail
polish WARPAINTING to make you HAVE LOTS OF SEX and PEA PENISING, so guess it has begun

I guess it helps when your target audience has thousands of years of oppressive cultural context for your advertising to work off.

Tangentially related, but a few days ago I saw an advert that literally said 'our car will bring meaning to your meaningless life'

That looks like the same face but different hair, eyeliner, etc on one side. Gender bender ahoy! I married an older woman myself, but she wasn't a MILF until we had our son. Whoodathunkit, experience counts!
Edit and yeah Jung's A/V is a guy. FWIW.

It's from
another thing I stumbled on while browsing Straha's link, It's a "half-drag portrait" so I'm p sure it's one face.

The other day I saw GUYLINER: Eyeliner for men
I was tempted to buy it simply because of the sillyness of the name

Why is sticking it to Satan such a thing among christians?
People go on about how awesome it was to have him killed in TSW, and I've heard reference to "kill the devil" fics.

I get that, but there's something about those stories that baffles the shit out of me.
I can't put my finger on it.

surely to properly defeat satan, you'd have to forgive him

Well the only time IIRC that Satan does anything is to Job and only because he and God are betting.

Look if we're going to base things on an honest reading of the Bible, huge swathes of Christian theology don't make any sense

cool pure science but I still doubt it will ever become a functioning device; the energy requirement is still enormous (gigatons of tnt if i'm doing it right) and needing less of the exotic matter is still a problem cuz that exotic matter might not even exist
but hey, you never know
