Hey Red, do you happen to remember when the whole sig/av thing entered into the punishment scheme? IIRC, it started off as mostly HoSing, title and bans. I don't recall sigs and avs entering into it until Spanky got in trouble over that aphrodite contest mess, and then they did it because of his whole changing avatars every week thing (I think either Mike or Dalton specifically said it was because Spanky seemed to put so much value into them). I can't really recall it being used or really threatened before that point, though now it is.

I also think part of the negative CT thing is because, back when the board started, CTs were kind of a big deal in having to 'earn' one and all (I don't know if they're still that way now; I honestly haven't noticed anyone really caring, and don't pay that close attention to see if fairly new members even bother with it after they get past 2500 or so posts). So getting slapped with a negative CT was, I suppose, a bad thing. As well as some of the whole public shaming effect and all that.

Incidently, that last is where I would agree with others above that the negative CT punishment breaks down on a board like SDNet. I can remember quite a few times where somebody was rebuffed with little more than, "You're a VI so you're wrong," or words to that effect. The VI itself became a reason to dismiss their arguments, without even having to put in the effort to address what was actually said.

I mean the mods changed my title because they personally dislike me and I don't give a fuck do why would it 'stop trolls' or 'improve the board'

i'm kinda tempted to cash in my 2500 posts and ask for the ct of "worthless trolling palm fucker" just for laughs

if they were dumb enough to do it that'd be awesome

that reminds me of the time shep took me to task for the term 'fatty nerds'

his specific attack was that many people on the board and staff are fat
and so i shouldn't say such things

i disagree about his posting being of the same quality as an ARSE post, i have yet to see a graph in ARSE

Arguably the most amiable, good natured, approachable of our senior managers* who has been with the company since well before I stared announced his resignation today, finishing in three months. Everyone is shocked, and he has admitted that he is not dinsenfranchised, nor does he have a better offer, but simply he is approaching forty and wants to try something new(read: mid-life crisis).

I am feeling a little dishearted by this turn of events, need a bit of the old patented Dan Stark Reality Check. Have at it.





*The other senior managers are these things too, but he stood out

I saw that thread and have no idea who the fuck that person was. Still, I will miss him more than if doof opted out.

He was the guy who had started doing those "Good News About" threads and was always pretty chill. He was never a big personality but he was part of the board for over 9 years. He didn't post that much (just over 3000) so its not like you would always run into him in threads.
