Ok, i've seen people talk about this before, but isn't it unfair to single out America in this regard? Contrary to popular opinion, we are not the only country in the world with commercialism and advertising.

so one of my clients gets web page designs back from the designers and then EVERY TIME is all like "remove the space" and "tighten it up"

then, invariably, other people look at it and say "the interface is kinda cluttered"


ugh. but whitespace is the only thing he's willing to remove. once a feature or whatever is up there, no matter how fucking awful it is, we can never kill it

just remove some more whitespace then it will all fit.



oh yeah and last month he read a blog post about "responsive web design" which is where your site responds to different sized screens. i always thought that was just called "not horribly incompetent web design" but buzzwords yay

well anyway in response to this, we didn't start removing shit, no, remember, no "feature", no matter how bad, ever gets removed

nope, he started adding even more shit to the wider screens just so it can disappear on narrower screens

then decided that's awesome and it needs to be on all pages and sizes

so resize that content down

and kill the whitespace

So Windows 7 told me it's time to get Internet Explorer 10 so I figured, why not?

So I do, it restarts and tells me one of my other eight updates failed (a security update for IE9 lolz) and now I'm starting up IE and HOLY FUCK WHAT IS THAT SCROLLBAR???

I opened up a folder and thank Christ my old scrollbar is still there for that. But is that ugly thing really what Windows 8 uses? Jesus Christ I will never update Windows for as long as I live...

I think the New Tab button is incredibly uninspired and a downgrade from IE9's, but that's fairly minor.

I'm tempted to try out that Tracking Protection set to Block Everything just to fuck with the advertisers, but I don't know if it would break anything else.
