The real question is :

is there anything that in the proper conditions can't be used to kill someone else ?

Blankets. You can throw a "party" with them, but they're too porous to suffocate someone, unlike pillows.

I believe that a dove's feather is utterly incapable of causing any harm whatsoever to a person.

inmates have been known to use blankets to make a noose

so i'm reading amazon reviews of this wovel thing. it sounds brilliant but it is like $150 which is kinda steep for a plastic shovel on a wheel so i'm not diving straight in

anyway i lol a bit at the people in like new mexico saying "works great all winter 5 stars!"

come on how much snow do they even get in new mexico? the ones from rochester and buffalo (new york) can at least be taken seriously

You could also sharpen the base of a feather and use it as a stabbing instrument.

If there's no proof it's been done with a dove's feather I stand by my assertion. I channel SDN-speak for breakfast.

now there may not necessarily be a link between gun ownership and violent crime

but i am willing to bet there is one between gun ownership and gun crime :v

There is also the unintended shooting victim sleeping a block away. These usually end up being small children who catch a stray. Also you're like 20+ times more likely to shoot a family member than an intruder.

If it wouldn't result in horrid crime and more people drinking, I'd actually support that. :godwin:

i can see it now, massive gun battles at the canadian border as the mob tries to import illegal guns to sell at shooteasies, firing ranges hidden behind a bar or similar front business, the police taking photos of themselves standing in front of a huge bonfire of pellet rifles and ar15s

There would be a full on rebellion, probably with military support if anyone tried taking their precious penis substitutes guns away.

so on one hand we know that fearing a home invader or whatever is irrational (an understandable irrationality btw; it seems to be human nature to fear intentional human caused stuff more than accidents etc). the odds are higher that you'll be victim to a gun accident than a gun crime if you own one, and similarly, the money you spend on a gun would be better spent on like smoke detectors, since statistically that is far more likely to save your life

BUT on the other hand, does this go both ways? maybe the effort the government puts into gun control would have a bigger life saving effect if it was put into something else, and we shouldn't really worry so much about it?

idk the cost/benefit of gun control seems worth it to me and i support some expansions. (did you hear about the UN arms control treaty that got delayed/killed by - guess who? - the usa last month? seems like a good idea to me but apparently not to the obama admin :( )

but maybe i'm wrong and we shoudn't get so worked up about it

i'm not against more gun control but the guys that go "let's ban all guns" are pretty massive idiots

If you can afford a Raven .25 you can afford two smoke detectors, or one smoke/CO detector. If you don't have smoke/CO in your domicile but you DO have guns, your priorities are fucked.
