so the solar estimate guy just left. just as i feared my house has a lot of shade, he thinks i'm probably looking at like 70% efficiency but is going to run some numbers back at the office to confirm

i was hoping it wouldn't be that bad, this makes a pretty big change on the financial picture, i'm prolly looking at breaking even over the next 20 years or even taking a small loss

solar panels are cool so i wanna do it anyway

but still, poo

I recently returned home to visit my mother. My first comment was 'WHERE DID THE PINES IN THE BACKYARD GO??'

She told me that the neighbours had decided to put solar panelling in and the place where it was to be located would have been hampered by the pines

Move to Australia where getting as much sun as you want is a legal right and probably part of the constitution

The guy suggested cutting down the big tree due south from me too... but I really don't want to do that. I don't like having that kind of an impact on anything on general principle, and in this specific situation, it seems extra twisted to kill off a big tree to "go green".

edit: especially since it'd prolly go to more like 85% even if i did. Which would make a significant financial difference - it'd then qualify for the full tax rebate - but it isn't really *that* much more electricity, since my system is very small anyway.

It could be, but I imagine it more as adr every time he comes up with another great idea or realization of his. I just love the image of a nerd sitting in a room like him and just declaring "A-ha! I have cracked it!" every couple days.

adr, I love you the way you are. Please don't ever change.

Also I just called someone out on that other board for making an Anal Sex analogy for being on the losing end of a battle. I know it's like pissing into the wind but it really pissed me off.

the important thing isnt having a plan

its telling people you have a plan

but not telling them what the plan is

Goddamn it's hard to think of a polite way to say "Man, it's like you just grabbed me and shook me while screaming into my face I DON'T ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND THE KIND OF HORROR YOU'RE TRYING TO DO HERE, JUST THE SUPERFICIAL THINGS ON TOP OF IT!"

"This story is basically all about puberty and alienation and what it's like to not understand and fear your own body and sexuality, in much the same way that Alien is about rape and pregnancy."

It's p funny when gender-egalitarian ppl continue buying into that "penetration as inherent act of power" meme

I mean it seems so obviously rooted in the idea that heterosexual sexuality is naturally heirarchical

Then again ppl just kind of pick it up "screwed" etc. as part of the language.

Writing a story in SB CrW that doesn't revolve around spaceships or fighting turns out to be a nice way to depress yourself wrt how stunted the nerd artistic palette really is.
