Yeah Stark, the panoramic cockpits are cool

although I'm not sure why they have monitors behind the seat :v

actually it made a lot of sense for animation because it's easier to draw the character in a floating chair against space backgrounds than to constantly redraw the whole cockpit

also I guess the battletech guys were shit outta luck when it came to stealing cockpit designs since the only Destroids with cockpit lineart are the Spartan and Monster

and that's just because they had to draw pilots in them a few times

Shadow Hawk Dougram has a nice cockpit

i like to imagine the seat rotates to keep the pilot facing away from the axis of motion for g-business

no you're the official material does state the seats are mounted on a "linear arm" that can absorb shocks and g-forces

or something like that

i like the little air bags they have lol

yeah i mean i'm having fun replaying the console version

not that it can't be frustratingly stupid at times

like in the console version you can only link weapons into three groups A,B, and C so if you have extras they just get their own slot. wat

and I'm not sure MW2 was even that great for its time. I mean the Jane's Combat Simulations games were released a year later and look and play better as far as a simulator goes. If people want to say Mechwarrior is simhard I think comparing it to flight sims of the time is sorta valid.
SFA was its own engine although i wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they ripped off WC3 for certain elements

also who the hell says MW2 is simhard?? pretty sure being able to dance around w/ jump jets puts the lie to that one basically immediately

like seriously on the heavy mechs in mw2, just one jumpjet is a solid investment

"but you won't get shit jump distance then"

who gives a fuck when you can now just hit pgup/pgdn and fucking pirouette way faster than any mech can turn on its legs (i don't know what the playstation control equivalent would be)

c'mon Uraniun, that was the relaxed jump jet option

gotta use the hard controlz for realisms

oh the console version is kind of hilarious

you just push L2 and R2 and rise into the air up to a fixed height

when viewing other 'Mechs there's little puffs of smoke but it's not really like flying

you can move a little faster in the air but the turning is still the same

actually it makes your legs a huge fucking target when you fly and the enemies can still hit you easily

So I was thinking about the Urbanmech and how its uselessness relates to the rules

Like maybe roads in the future can accommodate a giant R2D2

but so it can only move 2 hexes at max which does not afford it any modifiers for distance traveled when an opponent tries to hit it

but when it jump jets a max of 1 hex (which in terms of height isn't enough to clear buildings) it then it gets a +1 when someone tries to hit it

and yet for the Urbanmech itself, jump jetting adds a +3 to anything it tries to hit

I mean a faster robot running full tilt would be harder to hit in most cases. Even that same robot running vs. jump jetting would be better off just running I think.

Is jumping so chaotic from the pilot's perspective?

I mean is it harder for an Apache pilot to hit something than it is for someone to hit the Apache?

let's ask Nicholas Cage in Firebirds

or Steven Segal since he shot down a helicopter with a pistol

when I think about it, jump jets do have some utility getting a battlemech over rivers and other kinds of rough terrain. Also you can jump on top of buildings for urban combat. Of course the Urbanmech which is designed for urban combat can't jump on a building higher than 1 level in game terms. in combat I think it's better to just run behind someone

since you can run farther than you can jump (lol why) you only incur a +2 for running rather than a +3 for jumping. Also you're more likely to get in position since you don't need to turn all the way to face someone's rear (or i guess it's left and right with the way they divide the hex) arc because of torso twisting and arm firing arcs.

so really I don't know what they wanted to do with jumping in the game. It was never terribly useful in the PC games outside of the crazy shit MW2 let you do.

By contrast, jumping in Armored Core 1 is pretty smooth (AND VISCERAL) and you have enough maneuverability to dodge and attack targets with precision. And also you have enough control to land on small platforms if need be.

That doesn't mean the defend the submarine mission in Masters of Arena didn't suck though :<

Mech is based on fusion and fission reactors which are within the relm of reality. Minus material science that is lulz with physics. Armored core is fun but dosent enjoy that plausibility.
