So, lately I've been re-reading Alejandro Jodorowsky's "
Metabarons" saga (there's a complete collection at my school's library), and I have to say...
I still love it, but I have to remark that if Jodorowsky is really good at world-building and at evoking themes and visions, he his a terrible story-teller.
I know that the major theme behind the Metabarons is that they ARE invincible as long as they keep sacrificing themselves and all they love in the pursuit of their "duties", as long as they keep following the "path of the warrior" ; and maybe it's a sign that I've become snob, but not only do the Metabarons come off as some kind of walking Deus Ex Machina (which I'll admit is what they
are in-universe given they are called only when the situation is otherwise desperate), they also come off as walking, breathing No Limit Fallacies.
I know that Jodorowsky's argument is that there is nothing more powerful than the Human Heart, but damn is he really unsubtle about it. Like, basically, most fights are "And thus the Metabaron won because he is the Metabaron. The End.".
Also, some of the characters come off as author puppets, given how artificial their reactions seems. Like, how the de Rokha girl madly fell in love with Steelhead at first sight (well, I'll admit the circumstances of this encounter were really special, but it still felt kind of forced in my opinion).
I dunno. I know that apparently people have a love it or hate relationship with pretty much anything Jodorowsky, but do anyone has any input to offer ?

Well France (supposedly) has some pretty harsh anti-DRM measures so it might be risky. That said:

You can easily understand it's been controversial from its inception.
I'll give you more details when I won't be at work.
But he never did give me those details so I don't know how nerfed it was, what the restrictions are, whether they track torrents, etc.

1/ Go to youtube
2/ type "Army of Darkness movie" in the search box
3/ movie is among the first results
Why don't I torrent it ? Why would I bother trying to find a non-shitty torrent with enough seeds, and wait several hours for it to download on my shotty connection, if three seconds of non-effort bring me a youtube link ?

Thus far, several years after the deployement of Hadopi, afaik only one person has been condemned for torrenting licensed content. It was for one song of your pop star of the day. The condemnation was a fine of several thousand euros I believe.
The original proposed measures where to simply cut people's internet without oversight from the judiciary system after the third warning. And I'm not sure there were appeal procedures possible, given Hadopi was supposed to act as an administrative body.

Reality is crazier than fiction...
In France, the (female) president of the collective "Manif pour tous", which oppose the right of homosexuals to marry, is called "Frigide Barjot".
Let me explain why this is funny...
"Frigide" (fr) => "Frigid" (en)
"Barjot" (fr) => "Nutcase" (en)
Yes, you understand that right : the leader of the fight against gay rights name's reads as "frigid nutcase".
That is so deliciously ironical...

Whoops, apparently it's not her real name, but a nickname she chose for herself...

Please remember the nickname tea party activists originally chose for themselves was "teabagger"
Obviously now it's considered a slur worse than the n word but they're silly like that

Also, she apparently appointed herself "Jesus' Press Officer"
In France.
There are not enough facepalms.

Apparently she complained that the President didn't wish to meet with her organization.
After they fought against what was one of the key propositions of his electoral program (the "Marriage for All" proposition).
And now that the law has been passed (and they still fight against it).
Basically, I get an "help, we are getting oppressed" vibe from her.

i recently rewatched the "help help i'm being repressed" scene in monty python holy grail and dennis was totally in the right to complain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvKIWjnEPNY
arthur physically attacked him for no other reason than that he was criticizing the system of government; that
is violent repression and dennis was absolutely in the right to call attention to it and ask for help from his fellow workers
