So, my computer at work changed it's mind about functioning and released its magic blue smoke for me to cough on.

That would be a not exactly minor inconvenience, but only an inconvenience... except that there's a project I've been working on that I hadn't put on the network yet (even though I really should have... ). One that is a high priority.

Hopefully, it's just the motherboard.

But, that thought that the hard drive might be gone has me wondering if I should be worried.

Which is making me worry.

Gah, gotta go see a dentist and get my wisdom teeth removed. The one on the left side keeps crunching down on my gum, an it's making it hard to eat

If I could lay my hand on the asshole who thought it would be a good idea to sprinkle the roads with gravel...

Faceplanted on a 90° turn with my bicycle*, ruined both my hands' palms and my left knee and forearm. Also ruined my jean, but that's not really relevant.

I had to extract gravel that had inserted itself into my forearm.

Fucking *****

* (before you ask, I wasn't even doing 20 KPH, I simply braked in the curve and drifted / slid)

also I'll take this as a reminder to always wear a helmet when on a bike, because I wasn't wearing any then...

it's in cases like these that you are reminded that flesh is, after all, quite soft and squishy

heh, what's the worst that could happen ?

*lightning strike*

But yeah, the irony is I was on a casual trip to go buy some medications for my hemorrhoids. Well, I had to take care of another kind of bleeding first. :v

At least now I have a practical example of why bikers wear gloves.

last winter i had a slow motion crash. i was making a sharp turn at about 3 mph - walking speed because i was on a sidewalk creeping up to a traffic light on wintery conditions

and i turned just a little too steep, and it was surreal how it went down. i knew i fucked it up, my momentum had stopped and i was starting to tilt... i think the time between hitting the bump and hitting the ground was like a second and a half, cuz there wasn't enough time to put a foot down and stop the fall, but it felt a lot longer

but winter riding in general is a strange bit of danger. i also don't wear a helmet in winter because my head is covered by hats and scarves to keep the cold out and there's no room for it. odds are when i die it will be in the winter. helmets save lives.

anyway, now the odds of falling in winter are higher, cuz of ice and so on, but the damage from a fall is lower cuz of ice and so on

seriously, first of all winter riding is a lot slower than summer riding, about half the speed. secondly i'm wearing thick winter jackets and hats, which at least offer some padding, and third hitting ice is interesting because instead of scraping along pavement, you just slide.

the initial pound when you hit the ground and have downward momentum hurts, but your forward momentum is spent sliding across the ice (and if you don't stop from that, you'll likely hit a snowbank, which hurts a lot less than hitting a concrete curb!)

whereas i've had two especially nasty summer crashes resulting from sliding on the road. one of them was hitting sand or gravel or something at the bottom of a hill and having a serious bail that led to brief hospitalization. not pretty

the second was a lot earlier. i was riding with a n00b and a car honked at us. the n00b lost his line and i collided with him, then slid across the pavement

and holy shit that hurt. i was able to get right back up and keep going but god damn, what happened was the slide removed just a few layers of skin from my wrist area primarily, which like revealed the nerves or something

because the slightest wind on that felt like a fucking cheese grater. not a deep wound, no deep wounds aren't nearly as bad, i think they just kill the nerves. this was very shallow, very spread out, and very un-fun

so yeah i feel for you dude

not really, i always just assumed there weren't any that big

but maybe i can get an extra large and take the padding out (since the winter hat is padding anyway).

definitely worth a try next time i'm at the bike shop

Go find a dentist who does general anesthesia, not that local bullshit. Unless local works for you.

Because I got my wisdom teeth removed and they only used a local. Despite pumping with it repeatedly, I still felt that shit.

It was not pleasant. :(

EDIT: Seriously, the dentist was starting to get pissed with me because I kept telling him I could feel it, and he just told me that he couldn't administer any more than he had. Whether that was true or whether he just got mad and decided to make me deal with it I'm not sure.

fucking tory scum
getting their private sector buddies to do half the work badly for twice the price
I don't think I'll go into how much I hate them for what they're doing to this country, it should be sufficient to say that I'm considering voting for the war-criminal Labour party as the less-bad alternative
