The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
That's what they call "fighting fire with fire"
In that case, putting the matches in the hands of the first asshole to show up.

Where are you planning to pass through while you're in the states?
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Not Nebraska, I'm afraid. It's a road trip from L.A. to NOLA and back.

There's plenty of opportunity to use/acquire/etc. guns in between those two cities. And if you're driving you'll be passing through Texas where the gun is practically worshiped by some.

Yeah, hoping so.

So the TV series of In the Heat of the Night is pretty good. Chief Gillespie is a total 180 from Archie Bunker, let me tell you.

Drop by OC before you get on the 10. There's nothing remotely interesting to do here, but there's about 5-6 of us who live in the area.
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Schedule is fairly fluid, but I am travelling with my dad, so we'll see how it all turns out.

hey cool. They're offering a free movie rental on XBOX live this weekend. Looks like it's an action flick starring the dude who played Mark Antony in Rome.
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
On another board, talking about some of the movies which influenced me the most.
Beetlejuice, Starship Troopers and the Fifth Element are on the list.
Son, I am disappointed in you...

Ah, Beetlejuice. When that came out I was in elementary school. As it happens I went to a private, religious elementary school and I still remember the teacher saying something to the effect of the movie being horrible and anti-God or demonic or something.
I don't remember her exact words but that was more or less the gist of it.
A year or two later my parents bought the VHS (or maybe I saw it on HBO...) and I thought, "What's the big deal?" Looking back that may have been the very first, tiny, little seed that ultimately led to my rejection of religion.

To be fair, the guy who said that IS 17 years old. He's also a white trash / redneck from Cincinatti.
Anyway, that was the "complete" list (what I could think of at that moment at least) :
Anyway, that was the "complete" list (what I could think of at that moment at least) :
- "The Wall", for being a fucking masterpiece of ART, and for having bored a number of imageries into my mind.
- "The Wave", for its reflection on the nature of fascism and its dynamics.
- "The Fifth Element", I don't know how many times I've seen it, but it's always at least as good as I remembered it. Some hate it for the cheese, good thing I'm French.
- "Starship Troopers", a masterful satire and a superb science-fiction / action movie. "Surprinsgly deep when you think about it". And don't talk to me about the book, I've read it, and the two things have nothing in common apart from the basic premise.
- "Beetlejuice" / "The Addams Family" : for having made me a really weird kid growing up.

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
Use of that word seems strange to me in that it's almost a reverse of the normal trend with bigotry: it's more prevalent the younger the person in question is. Just from that word I figured he was probably a teen :LOxymoron wrote:faggoty,
Also I can't really understand hating The Fifth Element. It's obscure enough that I figure it wouldn't pick up any flak randomly, and if you've seen it I figure it'd either be a case of liking it or finding it really weird and cheesy, but is that something people hate stuff for?

He's a gun nut who tend to dislike movies / books where the authors show a clear lack of understanding of how ballistics and firearms work

I would've figured the Replay Function would've shown that we're not dealing with 20th century bullet technology but yeah
that kind of person tends to have a very narrow preconception of what's okay and will actively hunt for excuses to kick stuff out of it

He didn't give any reason as to why he didn't like it. It's just a personal observation about the character.

Faggot is one of those things you stop saying when you grow up and realize you're hurting people you care about, because by the time you're mid-twenties or older at least one of your friends or a person you respect and admire has come out or you have met someone who is out and they are really cool.
Ideally.

I hate how kids use the word gay to mean 'that's stupid'
Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
I got up my staff over it at work. Most of them fell into line without any trouble.

Re: The Testing Chat III: The Time of Great Chatting
So i'm browsing Spacebattles.com right now, looking at the thread for Game of Thrones season 3. Some people are talking about the actress who plays Sansa stark and, well, it's getting creepy over there guys. really creepy. I think there are a couple people here who frequent SB so I figured i'd give them a heads up to avoid that thread.
