Your joke was as dumb as a screen door on a battleship.
RedImperator wrote:I kinda want to barge into one of the two boring TLDR worldbuilding threads on TEO and start asking detailed questions about their protagonists. Not just because I want to be a dick for the lulz (though that's definitely a motivation), but because I think it could lead to an interesting discussion about the relative value of effort invested into setting versus effort invested into character, and why nerds tend to dramatically overvalue the former despite...who am I kidding. I'd be doing it for the lulz.
If it's one thing STGODs have taught me, it is that world building is way more fun than actually writing shit involving plots and characters. Probably because it's also a whole lot easier to do the former than the latter.

But at least I admit that my preference is largely born out of being lazy. It's not exactly like I've ever gone into any real detail on those times that I do so as idle musings. And as for STGODs, my world building is pretty much limited to just putting in the blocks as the mechanics dictate and leaving it at that.

But again, I'm lazy. Heck for my SDN World nation I had a President in charge of a nation with "Republic" in the title, and there even was a senate. Except my President is basically a President for Life and has binding veto on anything the Senate ever does, and it pretty much operates as "Senate handles the (boring) domestic stuff; President does the (fun) foreign policy stuff". Or, in game-terms: I just ignore all the domestic crap that doesn't really matter to the game and is just fluff, while I have free reign to do whatever on the international stage which is actually relevent, without having to put in the effort of building a legislative consensus or crap like that.

But at least I can admit to being a lazy unimaginitive hack. That counts for something, right? :|

i already debunked 'no objectivity' when i brought up the ivp moratorium in ye olde house of commons

"hey, this place is supposedly about rational discussion, right? you guys saying we can't rationally discuss this?"
"no, we can't"
"welp"

so i have this friend

this friend who is the prototype of a fattynerd, i have come to realize over the past couple days

he's ostensibly a libertine leftist atheist but in reality he's a closet conservative who loves the quasi-fascist and bafflingly-wrong-about-everything niall ferguson and his philosophy exists largely to glorify his own selfishness

he loves neal stephenson's works, especially anathem, because he's obsessed with worldbuilding and systems over people (ps he says he likes kingdom hearts because 'do you know of any fictional universe which has a setting whose metaphysics is as complex and well-developed as Kingdom Hearts?'

this is the same person who read finance books over a summer and intended to play the stocks at the end to prove that he had mastered finance

yesterday he tried to convince me to play l.a. noire by linking me a shitty animated video from the penny arcade site that was about how la noire isn't racist

everything is falling into place

have i mentioned his fetishisation of psychopathy

I quite liked Empire, but Ferguson sells out his own argument pretty spectacularly at the end to show how noble Britain was in standing up to fascism
