It has now been
revealed who will take the reins of the SW game license after the closure of Lucasarts.
DICE working on a game makes me think that that BF3-ish SW game I found clips of might actually be getting released.

You know I remember when EA actually did put out the occasional quality game. Like back in 2006 when everyone thought they were going to fuck up C&C 3 and it actually turned out to be a good game.

Bonus points of course because it's not actually a quote from an EA person (it was some Disney Interactive fellow who said it).
But that shouldn't stop anyone.

The thing that worries me the most is EA's increasing reliance on DRM. I don't want to finally see a good SW game come out for the first time since 2005, and then not be able to play it because EA wants to treat customers like criminals.

Yeah, Battlefront 3: Bad Company would be annoying with an Always Online requirement.

Or constant DLC releases to nickel and dime people. I can see it now
Core game: a campaign with about 4-8 maps that cover the main planets of the movies
DLC 1: a handful of EU relevant worlds, most end up seeming like re-skins of existing maps
DLC 2: Some new campaign that takes an hour to finish.
Etc.

Sadly I'd be willing to bet soon enough that'll be pretty much any developer you care to name. After all, if it works for EA, surely it'll work for us!
Oh Atari, why can't you cause another video game crash already?

I don't suppose SW games made by EA's studios would be any better or worse than anyone else's.
I wonder if they're going to go "all-ST, all the time" with the games too, or if we'll get some set in the OT and PT eras. I think TOR is going to be it for the "Old Republic" era due to it's failure to slay the WoW-giant.

I guess it depends on when they plan on making/releasing these games and how much info LFL puts out there regarding the ST. I can't see LFL letting videogames spoil the movie a year or so in advance.

I wish MMOs would stop trying to "slay the WoW-giant" and just focus on making fun games, maybe some more sandbox MMOs would be nice.
But that's a topic for another thread, methinks.

So I haven't seen anyone here or on SDN talk about
this yet.
I'm honestly more excited at the prospect of getting soundtracks for the actual
series than I am for the episodes at this point.
EDIT: Also
This is fucking awesome.

Man seriously
The liklihood of any game beating WoW at it's own game is vanishingly small so why bother? Why not, instead, make a new and original game that's innovative and not played out?

Fuck yeah that would be awesome.
This series has had some good music. They need to, at the very least, release music from the series finale. Also I wouldn't mind some of the variations of Ahsoka's Theme, which was my favorite from the movie. I liked the way they revisited and altered it throughout the series.

I really hope the article I posted turns out to be true. I'd always hoped we'd get "season" soundtracks, or at least one for the whole series when it was over. I mean I always assumed it would happen at some point because if nothing else, LFL loves money and people would pay for it, but the unceremonious nature of TCW's cancellation and the push by the new management to push the Star Wars brand into the "Sequel" era had me concerned for a bit.

If you want to really see SW from a new perspective, read this. Acidic Lactor is a good writer and has a massive depth and breadth of sci-fi and pop culture knowledge (she references that someone's hair makes them look like a Krogan for christ's sake) but she's NEVER seen SW. EVER. So she's doing Machete Order and writing up minute by minute impressions and predictions.
I can't even remember the first time I saw SW, so watching her react to them as she watches and seeing how close and how far off she is with predictions is great. It's really reminded me of a lot of the magic in that series.

I've seen the "start with IV, put the prequels between V and VI" thing before and it makes sense to me, but what's with the axing of episode I? I mean I guess it doesn't really add much to the rest of the series, but neither does II, and I's a better movie overall I think.

it seems to me that missing I has left her confused about all sorts of stuff in II

Seems to be a result of all the negative hype surrounding it:
"I’m told it adds nothing positive to the Machete experience while also
detracting from the characters and setting; since I am trying to enjoy this, I’ll save it for later."
I suppose it's debatable on whether or not it adds anything. Thinking about you could probably get by with a few things, like just accepting that Obi wan and Anakin are a duo courtesy of IV and V, but yeah I think there would be a few gaps. Some of the questions asked could (probably) be better understood seeing the context in TPM, like accepting the whole Trade Federation thing as being precursor to the Separatist movement.
Some of those questions probably wouldn't be answered by Episode I though, like wondering who Dooku is, former Jedi, etc. That would probably require some knowledge of the EU lore, I guess.
Some of the predictions are spot-on, like the Republic becoming the Empire (a twist that would be definitely ruined by knowing the name Palpatine prior to watching the PT) although others are kind of hilariously off (Luke going evil...he had his moment in RotJ but not a true Fall), Han being the "Other" Yoda spoke of, and of course the Luke/Leia pairing of infamy.

I just went back and re-watched the Obi-Wan Vs. Jango Kamino fight in Ep II, and I forgot how exciting It was. It's fast paced, isn't too drawn out, and has excellent choreography. I think it's one of the better "fights" of the prequels, only really being shown up by Obi-Wan vs. Grevious and Obi-Wan Vs. Anakin in Episode III. It definitely stands out as the second most memorable moment of AoTC for me, the first being the scene at the end of Palpatine reviewing the Clone Army on Coruscant.

"As for the story…no wonder Yoda’s distrustful of Luke. If this is what sends Anakin over the edge – and I did not expect it to happen like this, by the way – another young man with Force powers, fighting to save someone who’s been captured and tortured, must be setting off every red flag he’s got."
Huh. I honestly never thought of that connection between AotC and ESB before. But it totally fits. Well, assuming Yoda ever knew about this, anyway. But from a purely viewer standpoint it makes sense.

BTW, for anyone who still cares about the EU, according to spoilers on TFN, supposedly Troy Denning's novel Crucible is going to be a "curtain call" of sorts for the main OT "power trio" of Luke, Han, and Leia. Obviously nobody's going to die in it, but it's apparently going to be the last adventure with them taking center stage, and after it they're going to make the younger characters like Jaina, Ben, and Tahiri the focus.
About fucking time.

I really cannot express how intriguing it is to too it all second hand through new eyes. I'm going to be sad when it's done.

Indeed. Such as this from the Ep3 viewing:
Palpatine responds by validating Anakin’s revenge for the loss of his hand – and by reminding Anakin of what happened to his mother. Does he not realize what he’s doing? Yes, he’s won a huge political victory – the enemy commander is gone for good – but he’s corrupting Anakin.
Everybody familiar with Star Wars of course is aware that Palpatine knows
exactly what he's doing in trying to corrupt Anakin. But for somebody not "in the know" when it comes to the mythos, it'll be interesting to see how they react to a "twist" that probably wasn't meant as a twist, under the assumption that people know Palpatine is the real bad guy in all of this.
Hmm, I don't remember, but was Palpatine even named in RotJ? I'm assuming it was probably in the novelization but not everyone would have read that, and of course it's all over the EU. But y'know, this viewing and thinking about it does give me a new understanding for the people who were denying back in 1999 that Palpatine was obviously Darth Sidious.
