Really, the Federation seems to offer a superior quality of life and more stability then SW.

Well IIRC some of it was meant to be from the perspective of some Empire officer grasping at anything he could think of under threat of execution most likely.

worse than that (as i'm sure you know but for our other readers), the previous paragraphs calls them explicitly first steps. it is a transition process. the idea is to just break the established power structure so something new can happen

you might know the phrase from the american revolution "don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes".

ummmm i was born in late 1986 so pretty soon i'll be 2012-1986 = 14 + 12 = 26

so close enough to 26. i started doing web forums in my university year, late 2004, as that was the first time i had the internet on my personal computer. that would maek me about 17 at the time, going on 18

I think it was teenage rebellion actually.

When I say that bear in mind I grew up in Berkeley California which is generally a fairly leftist place.

So saying stuff HPCAites might nod along with was a effective way to get the kind of reactions from people that makes a dumbass teenager think he's some sort of badass nonconformist. "Everybody thinks I'm dumb and/or an asshole, this must mean I'm sticking it to the Man!"
