i just got back from the polling place where i had a lot of great options

the very same person under the republican, conservative, and independence parties

twice. "vote for any two, but do not vote for the same candidate twice"

what's even the fucking point?

county legislature, the republican incumbent ran unopposed

the city council was more exciting though, four candidates there for two slots (down from six candidates in the primary in september)

i wrote a peep in

then on the back there were 6 state constitutional amendments that were all pretty boring. "authorizing the state to trade public lands for money to a specific private company", why the hell is that a constitutional amendment? how about no

then legalizing casino gambling. meh, status quo for me.

at least i picked up some bread and milk while i was out

Pffft, says the girl from the Shetlands

The 'couldn't draw straight lines' bit suggests the author doesn't know enough about Australian geography, come to that :psyduck:

can I suggest the fact he/she mentions 'the shetlands' rather gives the game away on the persons alleged lack of geographic knowledge

Also if you have a minute would you mind reading this article that supports my worldview and running it through the objectivity filter, just to be sure?

TNG just came on this tv. omg. episode "silicon avatar"

so riker goes back for that dude who tripped... and calls for data to come get the kid he was carrying. so data was there, data is hella fast, strong, and I think he's immune to the entity eating up the organic material

I can't help but think those two lives could have been saved if riker just ordered data to run back there instead

I think it's mostly fair. His Indonesian trip was just further confirmation of the way in which the boat people issue has been so grossly distorted by both the Libs and the media - it's not a problem Australia can solve unilaterally and it's not a problem of immediate concern for Indonesia. Having said that it's interesting that this article has been written by a guy who used to work for Rudd and is in the same department as Hugh White, who wrote that editorial a little while ago saying the Rudd/Gillard govs lacked a foreign policy. Rudd loved foreign affairs but it just led to half-arsed shit like the UNSC bid - Abbott and Bishop are blundering but I'm always slightly suspicious of foreign policy types who pine for an Australian Talleyrand.

Someone here recently made a thread about sampling in music. Eminem's new album is why it's lazy bs and shows a lack of innovation and creativity.

I've always felt that sampling can be amazing or pathetic, depending on how creatively it is used

Someone here recently made a thread about sampling in music. DJ Shadow's album Endtroducing is why it's totally amazing and pushes the borders of innovation and creativity.

I've only heard amazing sampling in DJing, but in the case of mainstream rap (which I should have specified), it has never been remotely creative to me. But then again, I prefer music played with instruments that require years to master and legitimate skill, so maybe it's just my purist side that's getting the best of me.

I like song that sample bits from films. That way I can listen to film dialogue while listening to music.

That would be me. I had hoped to spur more of a conversation.

I failed.

Until now. :yeah:

sometimes I wonder how uptight I may come off

so to make sure a more accurate picture of me is to be had, let me just mention that this comic makes me laugh every time I read it

every time

so in my fanfiction the traditional method of their society to send messages to another family is you'd just send some of the middle age kids to run it to the neighbor's house or whatever

it occurs to me that many of them might reject the telephone as promoting lazy children! who needs that newfangled device, can't your kids run?

(the post office isn't as bad tho cuz that's more an outgrowth of the same system. you run it somewhere then relay it to someone running to the next town, that just makes sense)

It's interesting the way wearing poppies is a huge deal in Canada and the UK but not to anywhere near the same extent in Australia thanks to Anzac Day...interesting as well the way in which Fisk's Dad drifted into antiwar sentiment in later life, when many go the opposite way. One of my old professors did a lot of work on that, it's p. interesting.
