Look, broseph, if you have a beef against the iPads, spit it out. Tell us why. Well to save time, pretty much all of those, plus Objective-C is an objectively terrible computer language and a few other things that I'm probably forgetting, like charging way more than it costs to actually make the damn things.

What I'll admit that they have going for them is that they figured out that not everybody reads menus the way devs do. Which is brilliant, because it makes it accessible to pretty much everybody, like children, Los' grandma (whom I apologize for calling senile), etc.

I simultaneously hate it because there's no way to switch it to anything else and I don't read menus that way, but I'm just me.

Also their customer service is great (though I'm pretty sure that's because of the hideous margin they get on everything they sell.)

If you're just reading stuff or playing games its alright, if really expensive, but if you're trying to be productive the on-screen keyboard is pretty terrible compared to a proper physical one.

That's every tablet, though. You can't just pin that on the iPad. Hell, I hate the keyboard of my Nexus 7 because I can't use it efficiently because of the teh Knubz. But I'm not going to say "Fuck you Google, for not making a device that can handle the small population of cripples around the world."

I got an iPad mini for Christmas

when it was pitched to me I was a bit 'meh sounds like a purchase for the sake of being cool' but I'm loving it now...that said I'm typing this on my laptop and truth be told I still prefer to do actual work on my desktop so

man and here i thought that trying to put your best foot forward should the default mode for how i engage with other people and there's no reason to make them prove themselves worthy before i show basic courtesies of human interaction

We have a tablet manufacturer here in France. It produce pretty good stuff, and it cost less than Appl's products.

The government didn't even think to study the possibility of talking to them when they decided to give tablets to school kids and student, instead buying them iPads.

Archos? We looked at them here. At least as of a year ago, their stuff - while perfectly good for a home consumer - integrated with enterprise systems in an even more abysmally bad way than Apple, and ran obsolete versions of Android that did not have integration with the Google Play store.

Looking at their website, they seem to have fixed their licensing issues with Google, but that still doesn't fix the app and integration issues issues.

So far - on enterprise friendliness the rankings go:
Windows 8 (Not RT)
Windows Mobile < 7
Apple iOS (It pains me to say this)
Samsung Android (Only through one vendor)
Motorola Android (Only through one vendor, different than the Samsung one)
Windows Mobile 7.x
(At this point, distinction is pretty meaningless)
All other licensed, up to date Android vendors
Windows Phone 8
Windows RT
Non-up to date Android

Well, look, I have a Casio 'palm-size device' from like 1999 that has a better keyboard than any of these devices.

Each key lets you get at four different characters through gestures. Then, there's a shift key on top of that. I could type essays on that thing. Same with my old HP iPaq, it even had Office on it. Then Apple comes along with their stupid iPhones and iOS and shits all over that with a dumbass keyboard that makes you awkwardly hit buttons to get at other keyboards and now Microsoft is aping that even when they clearly have a superior product in that regard, so I'll never see it again.

I don't think anyone's going to claim that there's no use for a tablet (and certainly not me since I even use my phone for web browsing) but the current idea of "well keyboards and laptops are out, all I need is a tablet and I'm golden" is a bit premature to say the least.

I'm using an iPad 1 a fair bit. I love using it for reading on the bus, as well as watching films. (SmartConverter Pro is awesome for that.)

It's great for gaming, when you need a pdf available but don't want to lug books around.

Does it matter? All that's important is that it works for them and their happy with it.

haha oh man, programming on a laptop keyboard is annoying enough, but it's downright hilarious on a pad that's too small to even use two hands and where if you make a mistake you either have to slowly delete everything you wrote before it or try to put the caret in the right position with your finger, the hit area of which is three times larger than the characters you're trying to select, because obviously arrow keys are so '90s

i can't wait for some shiny person to proclaim that keyboards are now obsolete and we should use speech recognition for everything

My reasons for owning a tablet are simple: it's small enough to carry with me to school to use in between classes without incurring considerable weight, and more efficient to use in the hospital. Plus, waking up in the morning to check your email is far easier on a tablet than having to get up, turn on the PC and monitor, and wait for Windows to start.

Edit: By the way, there's nothing like waking up in the morning, going to the kitchen to get some Froot Loops, and hearing fucking sounds emanating from your brother's bedroom.

On another note, PS3 peeps: Do I have to play MGS 3 before playing MGS 4? 3 is okay, but a huge step down from 2 and I am bored with it. I'd rather jump straight into MGS 4.

story-wise? Yes.

I just played 4 having only played through MGS1 and nothing made any sense at all.

I just played 4, so yeah nothing made sense.

What little gameplay there was, was fun though.
